We recently connected with Krysta Youngs and have shared our conversation below.
Krysta , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through failure and repetition. These two things have been my biggest teachers.
Failure taught me resilience. Every time I got knocked down and picked myself back up again I gained a little more confidence in myself. I learned that even when things didn’t work out the way I wanted them to, if I kept showing up, I could always bet on me.
Repetition has made me better at my craft. I’ve been writing songs almost every day for over a decade. When you put in that kind of time the only option is to become better, faster and more proficient.
You get better by doing and you get better by failing.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a LA based songwriter, artist, vocal producer and CEO of The Haus of Creativity. I’ve done music my whole life. I love the creative process – from writing a song to recording it to shooting a music video and doing promotion. There’s nothing more satisfying than creating something out of nothing. It honestly never gets old.
Over the last seven years I’ve written tons of songs for K-pop artists like BTS, TXT, Twice, Taeyeon, Stray Kids and Suho. I’ve also released a lot of my own music, created multiple Splice sample packs, started a side project called “Join Tha Kult”, recorded a K-Pop course for Studio.com and started my company, The Haus of Creativity, which puts on songwriting camps around the globe. In addition, my music has been synced on multiple shows and played in heavy rotation on Sirius XM.
This year I’m excited to announce I’ll be releasing a Music Business course with my lawyer, Josh Dreon.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three most important skills and areas of knowledge would be:
1. Quality – My personality. It’s made me memorable and in my opinion is responsible for most of the opportunities I’ve received.
2. Skill – Being able to recognize the title of the song from having a conversation with an artist.
3. Area of knowledge – Songwriting, Singing, Vocal Production
Advice: Do something every single day. Even if it’s only for five minutes just sit down and do it daily.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was support and encourage my dreams. If I had a creative idea they never made me feel like it was stupid. They paid for voice lessons, guitar lessons, art classes and whatever else I wanted to do. They bought me a be-dazzler so I could customize my bra’s, helped me sew original halloween costumes and encouraged me to get a wholesale jewelry license when I started my custom bracelet side hustle in high school.
I remember years ago when I lived in Nashville I wanted to put a clawfoot bathtub in my living room. I’ve always been a big fan of taking baths (they’re like my favorite thing ever) and I had this vision of a bathtub in my living room overflowing with pillows and blankets where I could read a book or watch tv. I scoured craigslist until I found one and my dad drove me in his pickup truck to get it. He helped me carry that heavy ass bathtub into my house and he never asked me any questions.
My mom, God love her, sewed me a paper bag dress for a photoshoot. Literally sewed a bunch of paper bags together and created this amazing paper couture piece so I could live out my best photoshoot fantasy.
My parents never made me feel like there was a limit to my creativity. They never made me feel like I would be judged for my ideas. I think that’s why I think anything is possible, because of them.
