Meet Parker Johnson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Parker Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Parker, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I just look at where I am now, and find what I can do better, because there will always be something I can be better at weather it being a better artist, marketer, or person in general. I get motivated in things that I enjoy a lot and not so much in the things I don’t like, like most people.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In elementary school, I started doing our schools morning announcements/broadcast a year before any of my other friends. I worked on that and did videos in the mornings as kind of a intro video to the announcements. My fourth grade year was the first year I worked on the end of the year recap video and any type of video project in general. That was really the first time that I had touched an editing software, or really any type of digital creation platform. After that, I did more photo and video content for the broadcast, and for the school. When I went to middle school, I took my skills that I learned over the previous two years. And applied those to clubs and group assignments. Years later, I started taking photography and videography seriously by using professional cameras and other professional equipment. In March 2022, I started my Media production company, IONYOU Media, supplying brands and businesses with high-quality content for any use case. I made the switch to photography in late 2022 when I shot Kansas University Football for the first time which led into shooting 15 out of 20 or so Sporting Kansas City home games this past year on top of shooting a second season of Kansas football. In the previous year, I shot multiple high school baseball, basketball, and football games. In late August 2023 IONYOU Media expanded into a wire service, providing clients images from sporting events in the Kansas City area. As IONYOU Media expand, and as I grow as a photographer and videographer, I will continue to improve my skills in the art of photography and videography.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In the past, my dad was a novice photographer, passing some of his knowledge to me, along with me showing and telling him some tips as i’ve gotten better. Most of my learning has been self taught through trial and error and experience.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
The art I create. Like I said, I learn through experience and trial and error. Finding different angles, different editing techniques, new compositions. With the ever-changing art form of photography and videography, its hard to make your work stand out from other creative people.
