Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyra Clark. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyra, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
When I look at this seemingly blanket or sweeping question from the outside it feels intimidating and too broad. At first, I didn’t know how to answer it, but after taking a gentle moment to reflect I realized my perspective or view was too narrow. How did my purpose find me? Now, that’s a question I can answer.
My purpose caught me off guard; when I was lost, unconscious, in a painful place, in the gutter, down and out, hopeless, helpless, and didn’t have a pot or a window type of situation. I was all those things when it found me.
However, my mind and heart were still receptive to a new word of faith and inspiration, and I was restored with a deep drive and reason to live once I stumbled upon my life’s mission or purpose which is to facilitate healing and cultivate purpose through integrative approaches and servant leadership.
The key takeaway is that I found my purpose while serving others and my purpose found me while serving others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a recovering obscure underdog who didn’t believe in herself, through the grace and mercy of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I’ve gained the courage to believe in my unique abilities, start and finish hard things, and press on in purpose.
Through this redemptive process that I have to commit to staying open to no matter how excruciating, I can now say that I’m an award-winning, multi-gifted community-focused professional who curates 15+ years of extensive hands-on practice managing and working in the corporate, small business, and filmmaking spaces to demonstrate a solid track record of launching exceptional programs & producing creatively impactful projects that enhance the human spirit.
The cool part is I’m just getting started.
I own the Austin, TX-based small but mighty multi-media company Strange Wisdom Entertainment™ that at its core specializes in crafting original content and high-quality scripted & unscripted independent stories across a variety of mediums infused with mental health, behavioral health, and faith-based undertones for innovative special projects, underserved // under-resourced communities, micro-spaces + niche markets.
Right now the company is championing an invaluable docuseries called “Change Grief: Navigating Loss & Transformation’ which is a Black-led and centered community grief project looking to uplift suppressed and marginalized voices, and additional critical diverse perspectives within the nonlinear grief experience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were understanding or coming to the revelation that we live in a world run by systems so eventually build up your capacity to be systems-minded or oriented. If you don’t want to do that then another good strong step is to at least become aware of this.
Giving and serving while gently setting healthy boundaries to avoid burnout is possible. Having faith in the little steps being taken each day. The hair fracture inches matter! The steps, crawls, and inches you take matter. Don’t ever give up and don’t discard, dismiss, or diminish the tiny steps toward your goals, dreams, or aspirations. Keep tilling the soil and planting good seeds – your harvest will come. Process and progress of perfection always. Lastly, stay anchored in, holding on to, and grounded in faith. That’s my lighthouse – the word and joy of God.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Showing up ‘God-conscious’ and not self-conscious is the current challenge I’m facing. Need to steep myself in the understanding that my life is not my own, it’s the Lord’s, and when self-consciousness, insecurities, or pride gets in the way I can’t be the light in the darkness that he has blessed me to be.
