We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vanessa Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
When I feel like the world around me is pulling me in to many directions I often turn to the people I call my “village”. The people that provide me the most optimism are often the women in my life. Whether it’s a new friend in the neighborhood or an old friend I’ve had for years, I love building a community of strong women!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I grew up in Harbor City, California, and I am the oldest of five kids. I knew I had a super power at a young age when it came to creativity. However, I wasn’t in an environment that allowed my creativity to thrive. My childhood was a collaboration of really high highs and really low lows. My imagination was the stepping stone to allow me to create a better life for myself. My mother new that my creativity needed to be nurtured. She put me in theater school, drill teams, choir, art, and cheerleading, etc., in hopes that the teachers would be able to help me to hone my creativity. Recently, I became a new mother to my beautiful daughter named Scarlett. I now currently have my custom bomber jackets at the Rouge Cosmetics and enjoy mentoring up in coming young artists.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Take risks!! Worst people can say is no… best thing they can say is yes. If you can except both those truths then nothing will scare you. Trust me… It’s liberating as hell!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My ideal client would be Diane von Furstenberg. Although I already had the pleasure of customizing an art piece for her Connecticut home. I would love to continue to work for people like her. Someone who is strong, iconic, and influential to women.
