We were lucky to catch up with Dr Alison Curdt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr Alison, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I find my purpose in doing things that I enjoy that also serve and help others. Through coaching golf, I find an intrinsic satisfaction helping others enjoy the game, demystifying the complexities of the sport, and educating athletes on how to perform better. I find this gets me excited to start my day, knowing that others will find some joy in golf through my involvement. By helping others, I feel I have a purpose in the industry and its valued.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-discipline-In order to be excellent and successful there are some sacrifices that have to be made. I found that when I kept my “eye on the prize” or kept my goal visible and in mind, I was able to stay disciplined to what I wanted to achieve. Psychology-People are complex and my continued study of people and human behavior has allowed me to connect and communicate with others on a deeper, more meaningful level. Since I am in the “people” busy through golf and psychology, those soft skills and awareness of others people’s experiences are vital to my successful business.
Perseverance-There is often a lot of failure associated with being successful, yet not many talk about their failures. Its important to look at setbacks as information. What is the setback trying to tell you? Often its a wake up call to me to try something different or think about a problem through a different lens.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
An ideal client for me is someone who desires to be better. In golf, I like working with people who want a plan on improvement, who are willing to do the hard things, and who want to measure and document their progress to validate their improvement. In clinical psychology, I like to work with all sorts of clients, but those who are open minded to interpreting their situation differently, who are willing to examine their self to look for the best version of who they can be.
