We were lucky to catch up with Nay Parker-Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nay, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My grandfather was a well known humanitarian. He instilled in me, to always be giving, compassionate and loving to those in need. You never know when someone is down on their luck and what brought them to the place they are currently in their life. It doesn’t hurt you to help someone or be kind. In loving memory of my grandfather (Nathan Parker) I give back to my community. I now travel back to my city New Orleans, LA, annually and feed 300 people. I also provide the displaced with clothing, shoes and toiletries..
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m originally from New Orleans,LA, currently based out of Atlanta,GA. I launched my shoe business shortly after getting married in early 2019. While shopping for a bridal shoe, I became aware that many shoe companies were only producing footwear 5-6 inches in height. After discussing with friends, I discovered that many other women were facing the same dilemma when shopping for shoes. They had to choose between wearing painful, yet fashionable shoes or comfortable yet unremarkable ones. A few of them also had an issue finding sizes larger than a 10. Women often spend significant amounts of time searching for a shoe that’s stylish and comfortable. As a result, In 2019 I decided to create Beyoushoetique, a shoe company that specializes in selling stylish, comfortable and distinctive shoes that are no more than 4 inches in height. Beyoushoetique is a fashionable shoe boutique. I released my first custom shoe collection, Winter of 2022. I designed two styles of ladies thigh high boots sizes 7-12 and men’s fashion sneakers.Women no longer have to sacrifice their feet or their fashion.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have great taste when it comes to selecting or designing stylish shoes. Any one starting a retail company, the best advice I have is never order multiple items in bulk. If you haven’t touched or physically seen the product, place a small order. Don’t allow any companies to pressure you into purchasing items in bulk without a sample. Yes it may take longer to get the bulk order, but it will always be worth it.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my grandparents did was teach me financial literacy. The knowledge they have provided to me, has allowed me to create generational wealth.
