We were lucky to catch up with Priscilla Nagy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I believe my generosity comes from my up bringing. I was raised to do the right thing. One time when I was a kid my mother and I were at the grocery store and we were broke. While checking out there was money on the floor, I’m taking $300-$400 dollars. My mom turned the money in. We were so poor and could use that money but my mom said he wasn’t ours to keep. Growing up without a silver spoon, I help those who need it when I can. You never know when you may need financial help.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Priscilla. I have lived in Ohio my whole life. I’m married with one child. I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I’ve had my license nearly 20yrs!! The start of my career I worked at a chain salon in Avon lake. Fast forward 20yrs. I currently own my own business. Priscilla’s Studio was built in 2020. After years of being unhappy with my bosses and work environment, I decided it was time for a change. I took a chance on myself! I have been very blessed to have such amazing clients! Some followed me from my first job! Being a cosmetologist I can do many things but my passion has been hair the last couple of years. I color and cut hair. From day to day styles to more creative looks.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe it takes many skills to be successful. Number 1 skill has to be your drive. What motivates you. Number 2 education. Being knowledgeable is so important. Number 3 is your why. Why are you doing this? For your family ? Or more vacations? More money? The why will tie into your drive. Anyone new to the industry I would say be patient.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Being the owner means you do all the work! You work really hard everyday and even on your days off. It can be overwhelming. On days were I’m feeling overwhelmed, I like to step back. Analysis the situation. Why am I overwhelmed? How can I help myself. I believe preparing is key. Being ready for the day weather that means have all the color I need or making sure I have all tools I need. Preperation is key to success!
