Meet Meghan Young

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meghan Young . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meghan below.

Meghan , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I believe in paying it forward. If there is something that you have figured out or mastered, show the next person. Life is all about learning and teaching. A lot of us in our community do not have teachers to educate on the side of business, financial and service. So once one obtained that knowledge, I believe its one’s duty to show and tell. My generosity comes from people not always being generous to me. Feeling the way, I felt in moments of just needed help I never want anyone to feel especially when starting a business or trying to take a next major step in life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My focus is Tips 312. This business is all I think about, dream about, create things for. I want Tips to be a household name by expanding, creating commercials, creating products, and the home to all killer nail techs. Expanding is the greatest goal currently. Trying to find the funding while also continue to push the first and only location forward is a challenge but one that I enjoy and is on my mind constantly. I want to Tips to be a nail hub, a space where nail techs from all around feel comfortable working and maneuvering through the spaces. Being able to create motion for the nail tech is a goal and that can only happen by continuing to open locations. All I am doing is creating space in and industry that we dominate and create the narrative artistically but not financially and now it time for us to take that power back.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The one thing that I will always stand by is who you know. Make connections and make sure you are really making meaningful connections, so that you not only know them, but they actually know you and feel a connection to you to want to do something. Staying consistent, you want it, go get it. The work is not easy but meaningful. Stay well read and informed. Not understanding what you are doing in full will not help people support. Creating a captivating story around what you are doing help people attach to the journey and when your selling/building that is exactly what you want.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I always say it’s the people around you. No matter how many people say you can do it alone, you can, it’s just a lot harder and a lot less fun. I have a director of operations who came into the fold about 2 months before I opened the space. She was a god send thinking of every little detail that I did not think as I designed and project managed my own buildout of a 1600 square foots while also having a 9-5 was a challenge and while i was dealing with contractors, orders coming in left and right, trying to pass inspections, Erika came in and started building the website, got our POS system in place, set up payroll the admin things that are just as important as the buildout. She is still a part of the team leading operations idea, updating and rebranding the website and also the one of the best at cheering me on and helping me hold my head up when I’m feeling defeated by the business. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life.
