Meet Eric Bloom

We were lucky to catch up with Eric Bloom recently and have shared our conversation below.

Eric, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
First and foremost, my purpose is found through my relationship with Jesus Christ. My sole purpose in life is to bring glory to Christ by fulfilling my God given purpose of pursuing him, loving others, and to be an ambassador on Earth for Christ. Through this understanding, my purpose in life was created. I had always had an interest in sports and exercise and had the privilege of playing Division 1 basketball. While playing college basketball, health issues and injuries ended my career. It was in this moment when I knew I wasn’t going to be defined as purely a collegiate athlete. Instead, I knew God had a bigger purpose for my life. While getting injured, I frequently had to undergo physical therapy. This is when my interest in the profession began. It would allow me to stay involved in an active and sports driven world, while having the rewarding and blessed opportunity to help people through their physical injuries and recovery journeys. Having experienced several injuries, surgeries and health issues, my purpose in life became clear and became the mission of my company.

Mission: To be the salt and light to hurting and injured people through body restoration and transformation

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am currently in my 7th year if business with my physical therapy practice. What a wild 7 years it’s been as half of my business journey has been through the Covid years. Our primary focus at my practice is to serve, optimize treatments, and invest in our clients in the most innovated and creative ways. Medicine is always changing, so if you don’t stay ahead of the curve you will get left behind quickly. The most exciting thing about our office is we focus first on the person. You can’t help anyone heal and recover until you get to know them. Our goal is to build a relationship far beyond a medical provider and patient. This is what our brand is known for. It’s true with the statement “no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” We don’t treat injuries…we treat people who happen to have an injury. When people come to our office, we always say that everyone has a story and we often don’t know what that story is. Our hope is to learn more of their story so we can impact their lives when they walk through our doors.

We are always looking to find new, innovate ways to help people. Covid showed us that people want to find new ways to keep themselves healthy. At the begging of the year, I co-founded and started a new wellness company called Unwind Wellness where we focus on newer technologies and modalities that assist in an individual’s health and wellness
journey. We are excited to offer these new treatments in conjunction with physical therapy as well as wellness!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First quality is perseverance. Because of some of my hereditary medical conditions, I have had to persevere throughout my lifetime in every aspect of my life.

One skill I learned as a business owner is being patient. Things don’t always change for the better or worse overnight, so you have to learn to be patient through the ups and downs. Not making emotional decisions has helped me make rational decisions, where I force myself to be patient and not reactive.

One area of knowledge that has most impacted my professional journey is understanding pain and neuro science. Things are a lot more complicated than we know, so getting a better understanding of how our bodies pain and nervous systems function has allowed be to help more people in a variety of ways.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Number one is my wife and family. Outside of my family, my staff has been the most helpful in making Bloom Performance and Rehab successful. I will never forget when I heard the question asked…” what do you need to become a leader?” I thought about it for a while and thought of several answers. The answer that was given was FOLLOWERS. If you have no one to lead, then you aren’t a leader. I have taken this to heart because when challenges arise, my family and my staff look to me to lead them. One thing I have learned quickly, is leaders need great followers with special gifts and abilities, as they are needed to overcome any obstacle and challenge that may arise. Smart people hire smarter people. Strong people hire stronger people. They way you overcome any challenge is to find people who come along with you and elevate who you are.
