We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Juanita Corry-Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Juanita below.
Hi Juanita, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Discovering one’s purpose in life can be challenging and often elusive; it’s a process that requires overcoming obstacles. Despite having a vague idea of what I wanted to do, it wasn’t until I let go of my preconceived notions that I could fully embrace my purpose.
Life often put me in situations that made me uncomfortable and forced me to confront my deepest desires. I realized that the path I envisioned for myself wasn’t necessarily the one God had chosen for me. However, as I surrendered to the journey, I began to understand that every experience led me towards my true calling.
It was a process of shedding old beliefs and embracing new ones. When I let go of the fear and uncertainty that had held me back, I was able to fully embrace my purpose and find fulfillment in my work. It was a process that required patience, courage, and a willingness to let go of the past.
Today, I am grateful for the challenges that led me to where I am now, pastoring and overseeing several churches, businesses, and individuals in ministry as their coach and mentor. I am at peace with my purpose and feel a sense of fulfillment in all that I do. For anyone struggling to find their purpose, I encourage you to trust the journey and remain true to your heart. With time, patience, and perseverance, you, too, can discover the path that leads to your true purpose.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At the core of my work is a teacher. Whether in my ministry at I Believe God Ministries International, Inc. or my company Global Impact University Consulting, LLC, I am always helping others discover their gifts and purpose and mentoring them through the word of God to walk out those gifts in ministry or the marketplace.
At Global Impact University, we offer classes in Life Coach Certification, Ministry Leadership, and Theology degree programs. However, what I am most excited about right now is the pre-launch of Esther’s House of Refuge. This transitional home for women will provide temporary shelter, training, and development in life skills, job/career readiness, and homeownership.
As a real estate broker with over 15 years in the business, I also experienced hard times. I am passionate about helping women navigate difficult situations. Esther’s House will provide the structure to address the root of the problem, not just the surface issue of shelter. I am thrilled to be a part of this project and to continue teaching and helping others in all aspects of their lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the most important qualities/skills have been the most impactful in my successful journey. My faith and being a lifelong learner were two key qualities that helped expand my mind and belief that anything is possible. These are great assets, as they can give you the courage to take risks and pursue your goals with determination.
However, it’s important to remember that belief alone is not enough. The third quality is application, which is crucial to turning your dreams into reality. Taking action and putting your beliefs into practice truly propels you forward and helps you achieve your goals.
In summary, the advice that I would give to anyone trying to figure out what to do is to discover your gifts. Your gifts: while most of us have more than one gift, focus on the one that if money were not an object, you would do this one hundred percent even if you didn’t get paid. Then, become proficient in the gift.
Surround yourself with people already doing that thing on a level beyond where you are, and become a sponge. Soak up as much knowledge as possible. If the person you admire is not within your reach, do not let the status quo or distance stop you. Research them, read books, etc., and learn as much as possible about them and their journey.
Believe in yourself, and know that your circumstance today does not determine your tomorrow. Here is what I believe will carry you a long way. Learn this quickly: Today is a lesson that no matter how good or bad it is, it does not have the power to stop tomorrow from coming. Learn the lesson, and prepare for tomorrow so that you are ready when tomorrow arrives.
One of my favorite scriptures, and I have many, but this one will serve you well if you grab hold of it. “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. “Deuteronomy 15:10
Lastly, fall in love with learning. It will help you expand your mind. Believe in yourself and that all things are possible with God. Take action where you are, never try to compete with anyone else, and be authentically you. Stay focused; never stop working towards your objective, and success will find you.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have had many mentors and teachers along the way. However, the two that stand out in my mind are my grandparents. The late Odell and Elnora Cannon raised me and taught me so many lessons that I can not begin to tell them all here. They shaped my life at an early age. I didn’t even know I received some lessons until I became an adult. That is the power of a teacher; they can plant seeds without your knowledge, and it’s not until the seeds sprout up or even harvest that you realize it was there all the time.
Next would be the late Archbishop Matthew A Barber; he was the person who taught and prepared me for my current role as Pastor. I did not see that lesson coming until it was right in my face. Last but not least is the one and only Mr. Les Brown. He taught me that I had greatness inside of me, and even if you fall down, if you can look up, you can get up. I am pleased to pass that lesson on to everyone who will read this article.
