We recently connected with Kimberly Archuleta and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism stems from a naturally joyful disposition and a life that has been, by and large, delightful. Growing up, we weren’t wealthy, but our home was filled with love and laughter, thanks to a humorous, caring mother, wonderful siblings, and a vibrant, large Hispanic family. Being constantly surrounded by family, whether with my parents or other relatives, contributed greatly to my happiness and sense of security. As I matured, this foundation of joy and family nurtured my optimistic outlook, leading me to embrace the power of manifestation. I believe that maintaining a positive, high-vibration state of mind, filled with happiness and peace, allows for a smoother and quicker realization and manifestation of one’s desires, minimizing resistance. This perspective frees me from overthinking or worrying excessively about outcomes, trusting that things will invariably align for the best.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The year 2024 has been marked by a remarkable honor for me. I have been appointed as an Advisory Member to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs’ Women in Leadership Certificate Program. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to contribute my time and expertise to this valuable program. The curriculum, which focuses on various leadership topics, includes a critical examination of women in leadership roles.
An insightful Forbes article from 2023 highlights a significant yet revealing statistic: “In 2023, for the first time in history, women CEOs led around 10% of Fortune 500 companies. While this marks a crucial milestone, it also accentuates the ongoing need for greater female representation in leadership positions at all levels.” (Source: [Forbes, 2023](https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinkruse/2023/03/31/new-research-women-more-effective-than-men-in-all-leadership-measures/?sh=5e82bfb6577a)).
This observation resonates deeply with the program’s goals and my personal mission to help bridge the gender gap in leadership within the workforce. As a proud alumna of CU Denver, a sister school, accepting this prestigious role at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Effective Communication: Coming from a lineage of hard-working women who were exceptional role models, I learned the power of clear, empathetic, and persuasive communication. This skill has been crucial in all aspects of my career, from networking to leading teams.
Resilience: My ability to remain positive and strong, especially when faced with rejection or hearing ‘no’ from prospects, has been pivotal. This resilience has taught me that perseverance is key to overcoming challenges and achieving long-term success.
Innovation: Leveraging innovation as a strength has allowed me to approach problems creatively and stay ahead in my field. It’s about seeing beyond the immediate and imagining what could be.
For those early in their journey, my advice is:
Hone Your Communication Skills: Practice active listening and clear, concise speaking or writing. Understand your audience and tailor your message accordingly.
Build Resilience: Learn to view setbacks as opportunities for growth. Develop a growth mindset, where ‘no’ is not a failure but a step closer to a ‘yes’.
Cultivate Innovation: Stay curious and open-minded. Look for inspiration outside your field, and don’t be afraid to experiment and take calculated risks.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
When my parents informed me they couldn’t provide a scholarship fund, I initially felt crushed. However, this news only fueled my determination. I devoted myself more intently to my studies and actively sought out scholarships. Additionally, I was fortunate to be accepted into the Precollegiate program at CU, where I attended college courses at both CU Boulder and CU Denver during the summer at the age of 16. This hard work paid off – upon graduation, I was thrilled to receive offers for five scholarships. Looking back, my parents’ revelation was a pivotal moment that significantly altered the course of my life, propelling me toward success.
