We recently connected with Vandana Jain and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Vandana, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Unveiling my purpose as an artist was a journey of self-discovery, marked by moments of uncertainty and the quest for direction and support. Initially, I contemplated the viability of dedicating myself to art full-time. The pivotal shift occurred when I committed to a more consistent creative practice, leaving behind my engineering career. I first explored resin art and later transitioned to paintings.
A significant milestone in my journey was participating in my first art show in the suburbs of Chicago. This experience solidified my purpose: to create art that not only brings joy but also raises awareness about the beauty of our world and the urgent need for its preservation. The resilience cultivated through these experiences became the driving force behind my artistry, propelling me to continually explore and create meaningful works. These creations carry a profound message, echoing the call to live in the present, savor joyful moments, and fervently advocate for the conservation of nature and wildlife.
Sharing my creations on platforms like Instagram brought crucial affirmation, as positive feedback and secured orders poured in. The steadfast support from my husband, emotionally and financially, played a pivotal role in fortifying my dedication to art.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am passionate about creating vibrant mixed-media and oil paintings that capture the beauty of nature and wildlife. What truly excites me is the opportunity to convey the awe-inspiring aspects of our world and establish a connection with Mother Earth through art. My paintings aim to evoke joy and appreciation for the present moment while highlighting the importance of preserving our environment.
The distinctive feature of my art lies in the bold use of colors and the deliberate contrast between realistic elements and abstract textured backgrounds. I strive to craft visually dynamic pieces that resonate with viewers on a deeper level.
On the exciting front, I had a fantastic experience participating in art shows in Chicago and its suburbs, proving successful for both me and the attendees. Additionally, the joy of being a featured artist in the Lincolnshire Art Festival, an Amdur Production, propelled me forward, showcasing my artwork in a reputable gallery. I’ve established an online presence for my products through my website and expanded it on Etsy.
Looking ahead, I’m eagerly seeking more opportunities, planning to participate in additional art shows this year, and broadening my artistic horizons. I’m even contemplating launching a new series inspired by my recent travels, so there’s more to look forward to – stay tuned for that exciting project!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my artistic journey, three key things stand out:
Firstly, resilience has been a game-changer. Being able to handle setbacks, doubts, and challenges has been crucial. Embracing resilience is key, understanding that obstacles are just part of the journey. Learn from those setbacks, adapt, and use them as stepping stones for growth.
Next up is community building. Having a solid support network of friends, family, and mentors has been vital. Surround yourself with people who share your passion and can provide guidance. Engaging with the art community, both online and offline, is essential for building connections that fuel inspiration and development.
Continuous learning is a must in the ever-evolving art world. Committing to ongoing learning is indispensable. Seek mentorship, take relevant classes, and stay informed about industry trends. A curious and open mindset ensures continuous growth and adaptability.
And for those who are just starting their journey, here’s some advice:
Embrace challenges as opportunities in disguise. They are chances to learn, adapt, and refine your approach.
Build connections with fellow artists, mentors, and enthusiasts. The support and insights gained from a community can be incredibly valuable.
Never stop learning. The art world is vast and dynamic, so stay curious, explore new techniques, and be open to evolving as an artist.
Find your unique voice. While learning from others is crucial, strive to discover and express your unique artistic voice. Authenticity resonates with audiences and sets your work apart.
Celebrate small wins. Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward is a testament to your dedication and progress.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I owe a lot to the people who have been a crucial part of my journey. Here are some of the key players who have made a significant impact:
First and foremost, my husband. His unwavering support, both emotionally and financially, gave me the stability to pursue my passion. His belief in my artistic endeavors has been a constant source of motivation.
Then there are the mentors and teachers who play a vital role. Seeking mentorship and taking online classes allowed me to learn from experienced artists. They shared insights into techniques, navigating the art market, and professional development.
And let’s not forget the community of peers. Connecting with fellow artists and art enthusiasts, both online and at local events, has been priceless. Sharing experiences, getting feedback, and being part of a supportive community have fueled my growth and inspiration.
All of these influences together haven’t just helped me overcome challenges, but they’ve also significantly contributed to developing the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge needed for success. Their encouragement and insights have been the driving force in shaping my artistic journey.
