We were lucky to catch up with Stacy Gonzalez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
The best way I built my confidence and self esteem was through trial and error. Being able to learn new things, figuring out the right way to do it. Over time you become a master at whatever it is you want to do. Just make sure you take the time to learn every aspect of what it is you want to do. Mistakes are great because you learn from them, you grow and build up a confidence.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello everyone, my name is Stacy gonzalez. I am a celebrity makeup artist and hairstylist based out of Los Angeles. I’ve been working in the industry for 7 years, and I love it! A majority of my time I’m on set shooting the hottest music videos, or maybe even a commercial.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I was just starting off in the industry I was very eager to work paid or not. I think this was one of the most important qualities I had. I was willing to assist any makeup artist so that I can learn not only how to better my makeup and hair skills but also learning set educate. Networking is very important Going on, no matter what the job was I always went to work with the mindset of doing my best not only with my work but with my people skills as well. I guess the last bit of advice I can give to any up and coming makeup artist / hairstylist is never stop learning, never think that you can’t do a certain look. Even if it’s unfamiliar to you just do it !
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I think one of the challenges any freelancer/ entrepreneur has is its ups and downs. Sometimes we are busy and can’t catch a break. Other times it’s very slow and that’s never a good feeling. Sometimes it will be so slow that I start to think I want to give up., get a new job but then I snap out of it and call myself crazy. The way I overcome these challenges is by staying busy regardless. When I’m slow I like to do makeup on my friends and make content. At the end of the day doing what I do brings me joy and sometimes I loose sight of that when I’m overbooked because it starts to feel more like work. I enjoy my slow times now and it’s a great way to get creative and take me back to my roots of why I started in the first place.
