Meet Jane Li

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jane Li. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jane , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I’m always curious about new things and eager to experience them by myself. I’ll never give my answer until I do it and share my own experience. For example, I was interested in podcasts when I just graduated from grad school. I was curious about how this industry works and how different to be a podcaster from other content creators. Rather than using other’s experiences, I established a podcast with two other friends and gained hundreds of subscribers overnight. When you try a new thing, creativity will naturally build and come to you.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve been a content creator since 2012 when I was still a junior high-schooler. It started by accident by eventually laid the foundation of my future carrer direction. I was a fan girl of a K-POP band. The main way to express my adornment was by creating art based on their songs and content. In 2012, no one talked about “influencer” or “social media content creator” but did everything for the sake of interest and passion. But if you indulged yourself in social media, you would eventually witness the power of influencers. My account went viral after a repost from one of them and made myself become part of the influencer group. I established my design studio to explore more opportunities to share my content. I traveled across China to meet up with people who had a big follower base. Gradually, I saw where I would like to move forward. I started to focus on the path to social media, interning in relative fields and creating different kinds of content to spread out my reach. In 2020, I was admitted to USC, studying Digital Social Media to strengthen my professional knowledge. For the past three years, I kept trying new things – website building, video editing, and audio creation while getting hands-on experience as a Social Media Strategist. I believe that everyone will be a brand in today’s world only if you are willing to share your stories.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Keep up with the trend 2. Inclusiveness
3. Time Management

I would say believe in yourself and be consistent. There’s thousands of no in front of you but you only need one yes.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
If you are a content creator, this scenario might be quite familiar to you too – you are scrolling on your phone without thinking anything while frustrated at your content creation process. You are upset because of the engagement you have from your last content but you know nothing to do with it because you have put every strategy in. The view sticks to 300 and likes bouncing between 20 to 40. Anxiety has been one of the challenges I have encountered since 2012. I don’t want to use “big” to describe it because it happens all the time. Creativity comes and goes in a cycle. You will not be able to detect when it’s going to come back. One of the resolutions I use recently is to write something, using pen and paper especially. Anxiety gets worse when your mind is in a mess. We need to focus on something we can control and put those not aside to get ourselves together. And writing will always help.
