We recently connected with Natasha (Nashi) Patel and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha (Nashi), so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I’m a delusional optimist at heart. No matter how dire the circumstances look, I always feel like things have to work out in the end. Though it might be hard to keep going, it takes patience to wait for others to see what you see in your self, it takes courage to try something that could fail miserably and when everything goes south, optimism to pull yourself out of that hole. I draw positivity from the relationships with my loved ones and knowing that worst case scenario, I have some pretty loving and caring people who are rooting for me keeps me going and keeps me optimistic in the face of pretty much anything.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a songwriter and creative living in LA and I do a lot of session work and collaboration with artists to help bring their creative visions to life. The most exciting part of what I do is making connections with passionate and inspiring people and building with them. In the past year, I have done everything from session work for a Japanese video game (Memento Mori) where I sang the English version of the song ‘Never Ends’ to having my vocals featured on the album ‘Sunday Dinner’ released by the prolific rapper Nick Grant in 2023 (Tracks 4, 7 & 8). I am in a phase of saying yes to everything exciting and following and nurturing my curiosity. The ongoing projects that I am most excited about are my own music that I’m working on releasing and my friend and mesmerizing singer/songwriter and artist, Leiah’s new project as well. Leiah & I are coming out with a track together called ‘Fade’ alongside another great artist Ceptemba. I’m just so excited for these new songs to get discovered by music lovers and hopefully resonate with them deeply as they have in the creation process with me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Not giving up is the most important skill or quality because its why I’m still here. I really love writing, singing recording, creating layers and harmonies, inventing concepts, escaping into new worlds, and if I didn’t exercise the muscles required for that then I wouldn’t be able to go forward with as much conviction. So doing it whenever I can (usually that is every day but I happen to be taking a little break currently) and not giving up is just the most important thing. It makes me so happy to press play and hear what I created at the end of the day, those drives back listening to the bounce are some of the most fulfilling moments in this crazy journey. Other than not giving up, taking care of yourself physically and emotionally is important of course because ultimately you want to show up feeling good in your life and do your best work at your highest capability. Finally, back to the optimism! There will be ups and downs, but keeping hope is the only way to stay sane sometimes and to just keep going.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth that I am so proud of in the past 12 months has been staying consistent with a daily routine. As a creative it can be easy to succumb to the randomness of schedule that inevitably comes with the job, but building a routine that you stick to when you can, scheduling yourself, keeping track of projects, places you need to be and focusing on health along with that everyday makes the whole thing feel so much more fun. I no longer feel like I’m scrambling to keep up, and I feel so much more in control of my life so that I can be much more intentional with my energy and focus.
