Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mactaivious Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mactaivious, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self-esteem has come from making music. Growing up, and even still today, it is very rare for someone to tell me I was doing good at something or that i made them proud. So I never felt confident enough to do certain things or take risks, until I started making music. Making music has provided me with a unique platform to express my creativity. Writing lyrics and experimenting with different sounds has allowed me to release my thoughts and emotions in ways that words alone cannot. It’s become a form of emotional release for me, enabling me to understand and explore my feelings. Especially whenever I am on the stage, nerves turns to excitement and excitement becomes my confidence. I believe the fact that I have to ability to entertain and connect with others through music, it also gives me a little push of confidence. I do wish I had more in my everyday life, but I am glad I do have it because with music, I would probably have none.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Mactaivious Jones, and I’m a music artist known as Phantom Senoj. Music runs in my blood, and I find my inspiration in my father’s music career and my brother’s current work. Music is my fuel, and it keeps me going in every aspect of life, even when things get tough, and I feel like giving up. My desire is to share something relatable with the world in an entertaining way that shows people that they aren’t alone emotionally. I want to convey the message that there is always someone out there willing to express what others are afraid to admit. Throughout my journey, one thing has stayed consistent: whatever I write, the message is love. I’m just a lover boy, and I want to express that in my music. I often say things in my music that I would never say to someone I like in person, but that’s the beauty of it. I can express my love and passion through my art. I’m proud of the progression I’ve made, and the support I receive from people who connect with my music. They tell me how it helps them through tough times and how it connects with their lives. Currently, I’m eager to get back on stage and perform for people again, or any live event, but only time will tell.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities and skills that I have adapted and improved on during this journey are my confidence, my fan base, and my ability to adapt quickly. My confidence and self-belief are one of the first things I noticed changed about me as my journey continued. Not saying I’m bursting with it, but it feels nice having some rather than none. My fan base has grown from the beginning. Having people message me personally or in my comments saying how much they like my music and/or how it affects them personally. With people just starting to pick up on my music, I am very excited to see how much my interactions grow with my fans. My ability to adapt quickly was a genuine surprise to me because I didn’t notice until someone pointed it out to me. I can and have written long songs on a time crunch regularly. In less than 10 minutes, I can write a song that sounds rushed, but those songs sometimes have more depth and diversity to them compared to some of the other songs that take me all night to write. Even outside of music, I found was to adapt to situations very quickly to make things more efficient.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I am eager to collaborate with other small R&B and pop artists. Finding new people to work with can be challenging because most of them expect payment for their services. My goal is to share my work with a broad audience without any monetary compensation, but it has proven to be more difficult than I anticipated. Naturally, if I approach someone who has a bigger following and more listeners than I do, I am happy to pay them for their time and effort. Unfortunately, in most cases, when I approach artists who have a comparatively smaller following, fewer songs, and less influence than I do, they demand hundreds of dollars for a short verse, which I believe is unreasonable. I hope that one day I’ll be able to collaborate with more people and grow together as a community.
