Meet Chris Browne

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Browne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.

Chris, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
I developed my self discipline really from getting a clear idea of what I want to achieve by a certain date, and work my way backwards breaking down how much work is involved each day to get there.

And if I miss a day it compiles into the next day and so on. That’s what helps me keep on task.
It’s the little efforts along the way that keeps thing consistent to reach an eventual goal.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m currently working as a Global Visual Effects Supervisor at Sony Pictures Animation. And I am also an award winning filmmaker who’s latest production is a Sci Fi epic currently touring the international film festival market.

My work as a visual effects supervisor helps me create and bring to life fantastical environments and creatures into my filmmaking, and my filmmaking gives me the experience to approach my visual effects work with a strong cinematic eye for storytelling.

I’m a very hands on director and artist. I operate the camera, editing, cinematography and effects entirely myself on my independent projects, and on my studio wide work I have been fortunate to be able to lead teams of hundreds of talented artists on multi million dollar franchises.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Have a thirst for knowledge for everything in your craft, put in the time to learn, study and work on your passion in your spare time and on the job.

Produce something tangible that others can critique (which helps you improve) or be impressed by (which will open opportunities).

Share that knowledge professionally at work and in the industry either online or at social events.

This will position yourself as a leader in your field and make you highly sought after.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would like to collaborate with actors who are willing to jump on a project on a whim or an improv scene that can contribute to some of my projects I would like to make.

I would also like to communicate with other visual effects supervisors who have a lot of experience with live action productions so we can learn and grow with each other.

As well as artists familiar with the latest technologies for filmmaking and post production.
