Hi Sherika, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
I think my self-discipline really comes from my persistent and determine nature. I never like to give up on anything I’m passionate about. When I started my entrepreneurial journey, I was determined to make it work and even more motivated when naysayers didn’t believe that it would work. So I’m driven everyday to go harder and take my business to new heights. My planner and journal are my best friends. Journaling keeps me consistent, but more importantly I hold myself accountable in all areas of my life. This is what ties it all together to keep me disciplined.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I consider myself quite the conglamorate. On one hand, I’m a complete fashion girl who finds absolute bliss in traveling. On the other hand, I’m a super nerd who loves researching ancient civilization and all things Cosmic. So when I’m not showcasing my style and travel experiences through Content Creation on Social Media ; I’m head deep in researching the mysteries of the world all while being a mom and running a business.
Prefessional wise, as I briefly mentioned, I’m a full time Entrepreneur and founder of Aura of Gold the Kollection a water resistant Jewelry brand. It was conceptualized out of my personal frustration from purchasing Jewelry from big Retail brands that ended up irritating my skin and tarnished easily. I knew that there were women out there that shared in my predicament. So its really something special to be amongst the alternatives in providing them with high quality Jewelry that can stand the test of time, without the worry of these nuisances.
The brand predominantly carries women Jewelry but we are now in the process of launching two new collection which includes our Men’s Collection and our Stack Box. The Stack Box will come with three standard chains at different lengths with the option to choose your own pendants to build a unique set of necklaces with your own personal touch. So I’m pretty excited about that!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my Journey thus far are Customer Service, Content Creation and Research.
My decade long experience in Customer Service has played a significant role in my entrepreneurial journey. My advice to anyone who is early in their journey is that Customer Service really is king and it is as much cliche as it is accurate, so prioritize that. Your customers are the lifeline of your business and you should treat them as such.
Being a content creator has contributed to my smooth transition in operating an online business. In this day and age having content creating skills is very important in any business with a social media presence. My Advice is to get good at this and if you aren’t able to do it yourself invest in somebody who can do it for you. The operative word ” invest” because sometime we are scared to take a risk but always remember “no risk no rewards”.
Do your research, we live in the era of information and technology. Almost every and any information you need is available on the internet. All you need is a bit of patience and discipline to put in the work and seek the knowledge that is required to take your business to the next level.

One book that has played an important role in my development is “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. This book has been monumental in helping me view life from a whole new perspective. The book itself is full of gems but I found the following to be the most impactful for me:
“As soon as you honor the present moment all unhappiness and struggle dissolves and life begins to flow with joy and ease”
“To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease and lightness”
“Nothing ever happened in the past it happens in the now. Nothing will ever happen in the future, it will happen in the now”
