Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aryan Meyers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Aryan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose a bit after I opened my photography business, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in photography but I didn’t know it would be so heartwarming and such a sentimental thing to each of my clients. I found my purpose when I published a gallery and had a client cry over how beautiful she found the photos stating that she had never felt as confident as she did in that moment. I knew that if I could bring that feeling to one person I needed to bring that feeling to so many more. Making people feel confident and happy in their skin is my purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi there, I am a California Destination Photographer. I started my business a few years ago and have expanded it everyday since. When I started I didn’t think I would ever be as far as I am, I started it as a side gig but have been able to pursue my passion full time over this last year. I think the best part about photography is sharing your gift with others and equally getting to experience their gift at the time. As a photographer you’re in on all the secrets, you get to know first when somebody is planning a proposal, when they get engaged, when they get pregnant or are having their wedding, and best of all you get to experience those amazing days with clients. I live vicariously through my clients, they shed tears during vows? Crying right along side you! I love seeing all photographers and their work, there are so many that inspire me to be great! When it comes to my brand I try to keep sessions fun and sometimes moody, I live for moody poses but also try to stick to prompts the majority of a session so the photos aren’t so forced. I spent 2 years developing my editing style and am proud to say I am a warm neutral editor, I love those neutrals! In the future I plan to travel more, so keep track of my travel dates via my instagram @ameyersphotography
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think three qualities or skills I had to keep in the back of my head on this journey were resilience, dedication, and only comparing my work to my own. The last skill really matters when starting photography because you always want to compare yourself to other but you just can’t, it’s not fair to you or to that photographer, you are not them nor is their style yours, you should only compare your work with your work from yesterday. As a photographer it is good to be resilient and dedicated because not everyone is going to like your work, we live in a digital world ruled by social media so you are most likely going to hear that some don’t enjoy your work and that is okay, you need to push past and keep going be resilient, bounce back and stay dedicated to your work.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
My biggest advice piece when one feels overwhelmed is to take a break, life is too short to load too much onto your plate at a time if you can’t handle it. Take a break and come back later, make sure you are 100% feeling good so you can put that 100% into your work.
