We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jade Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jade , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Great question! I owe a lot of my work ethic to my mom. My mom was an entrepreneur and owned a hair salon. Watching her service her clients and leave them amazingly happy was something I knew I wanted to do whether I followed her career path or not. I currently am blessed to now own my own business and pride myself on a strong work ethic.

I’m Jade! I was born to be in the beauty industry. So that’s where I stayed. I have been blessed to become a licensed Cosmetologist, instructor of Cosmetology, and now salon owner. My salon, Cocoa Bella Beauty has been blessed to have been in business for ten years. I am certified in multiple advanced techniques including color, and hair extensions. I pride myself on carrying out my moms legacy in this hair industry.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, prayer, and hustle. You can’t just decide to be an entrepreneur. It’s either in you or it’s not. Be kind to your journey, and yourself.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is the clients i currently have. They are amazing. Some have turned friends. They educate me, motivate me. I built my clientele through word of mouth. To the new entrepreneurs building, be patient and build your brand, stay consistent, and the good word will travel to build a great foundation of clientele.
