Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monique Fraile. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Monique with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents who have worked endlessly to give my siblings and I an amazing life. I look up to my mother especially who was able to adjust to life in an entire new country so quickly at such a young age. Growing up and seeing my parents work so hard with no days off has shown me that is the only way I can accomplish my goals. I am very goal driven and love to set mini goals for myself at the beginning of every week to keep me going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Momo’z Berriez is a small business home based dessert shop that focuses on gourmet and custom desserts for any holiday. Our desserts range from custom hand drawn designs on strawberries to simple milk chocolate covered strawberries. We also love to try new and non traditional dessert items such as churro cheesecake and an array of flavored cheesecake dessert cups. Aside from this, I have taken on the hobby of collecting Sonny Angels, which are collectible dolls that come in blind boxes. Throughout the past couple of months I have got the courage to host trading events with other collectors. The turnouts at these events have been amazing with over 100 people attending. After a couple events, I have managed to combine my business selling deserts and my hobby in a fun way and it has helped my business tremendously.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful areas of knowledge in my business journey would be my past jobs in the food industry, watching my mom manage her in home day care facility, and attending UCLA for undergrad. I would love to give praise to everyone that I met at my restaurant job that I worked during college. My boss and coworkers taught me everything I know about the logistics of starting up a business. In addition, seeing my mother manage a business always made me feel powerful as a Latina woman myself and gave me the courage to step out of my comfort zone to make my hobby into something bigger. Lastly, attending UCLA had opened a lot of window of opportunity for me throughout the years. For example, I have been featured on the Daily Bruin magazine early on in my journey and that helped a lot with opening my circle of customers to a large audience that still keeps up with me to this day.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth in the last 12 months is my social media interactions and pop-up event set up. Throughout the past year, I have learned a lot about social media and marketing and see how important it is to be consistent. Every day I attempt to experiment with new posts and videos to keep everyone engaged. In regards to my pop-up event set up, I started from the most simple set up that was no eye catching. To finally creating my own brand and getting an entire new and custom set up that is the most perfect representation of myself and my brand.
