Meet WAYNE BRAIN

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful WAYNE BRAIN. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with WAYNE below.

Hi WAYNE, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is something that I’ve built up incrementally over the last 16 years – day by day, brick by brick. A solid work ethic and willpower doesn’t come overnight. The funny thing is that after all that non-stop work over the years, it’s still as fragile as it was on the day the journey began. Every day there’s a good chance those bricks will tumble if I decide to ease up. In my penultimate year of high school (called A levels in the UK) my grades were bad, the worst they’ve ever been, and for some reason this was the trigger that flicked a switch in my brain to start this journey of self-improvement that I’m still on today.

I was one of those kids who would play video games for 12 hours a day if left to my own devices. I used to crash at a friend’s place pretty often growing up and we’d pull all nighters playing video games, sometimes back-to-back all nighters. The honest truth is, lying underneath the solid work ethic that I’ve built up today is that same kid. I’d much rather laze around in bed all day and watch TV than get up in the morning and get after it day after day. Every single day, without fail, that internal voice tries to persuade me to do exactly that: ‘Take it easy today, it’s cold, you’re tired and you worked hard yesterday’ etc.

Many people that know me might be surprised to hear that, but the truth is I’m no different than everyone else. Through consistent effort though, I’ve managed to create a second internal voice. A voice that wants me to give it my all every single day to see what I’m truly capable of, to leave nothing on the table when it’s all said and done.

I recently watched David Goggins on Andrew Huberman’s podcast where he gets real about his message and the way he lives his life (if you’re not familiar with Goggins already he’s the shining example of dedication and hard work). One thing he said in particular resonated with me on this topic. He talked about being haunted by who he once was and this driving him to become who he is now, even to the present day. I’m haunted by the future ‘what if?’ question if I leave something on the table. I’m haunted by the very real possibility of ultimate failure. This is at the foundation of what drives my work ethic.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Born and raised in the suburbs of southeast London, music was a staple in my home growing up, ranging from UK Garage to Reggae to Hip Hop. The rich grime culture of London was in full flow during my high school years resulting in me brushing shoulders with many talented musicians and artists through high school, and this was the place that I first explored music production. This all resulted in a lifelong love of music, and it seems like fate that each time I took a break from music, something always brought me back.

I’m a Music Producer and Content Creator by trade, focusing on Hip Hop (Drill, Detroit, Trap) production and short video content. On a day-to-day basis I create instrumentals/beats and send them out to artists to collaborate on songs with, and record innovative short videos around the instrumentals that I create. I also curate an internet radio station called ‘WAYNE BRAIN Radio’, hosted by the online radio streaming service Pandora, that has over 22,000 listeners a month in the USA (link provided below).

I’ve recently taken on this business/career on a full time basis and began rolling out daily content, especially the short vides. Check them out below in the links provided.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hard work is a prerequisite, the ability to teach yourself using available resources, and the ability to keep going in the face of repeated failure. These are three of the most impactful things a person needs on their journey to success. My advice for developing these would be – for hard work you’ve got to show up every day – for your ability to teach yourself you’ve got to carry on learning every day when there is no more school or college – and for your ability to persevere you’ve got to embrace failure and see it as a necessary part of the journey.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Collaboration is a key part of my work so I’m always ready to collaborate with artists, musicians and other producers. Producers and musicians, send melodies and guitar loops my way. Artists reach out and send me some of your music so I can send over instrumentals that fit your sound and style for you to work with.
