Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Therese Curatolo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Therese, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
Most definitely my Mother – she would give you the shirt off of her back to keep you warm. I was raised with such warmth and compassion for others – From the Italian household where there was always more than enough, my Mothers values were “build a longer table.”
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a singer first, songwriter second. My favorite part about what I do is seeing the excitement on the audiences faces – it’s as if they’re a mirror reflecting my euphoria back at me. It’s a bliss I could live in forever – nothing is more exhilarating. I have so much for with the audiences wherever I go – my mission is to leave them impressed and effervescent. I feel I’m in my own lane musically – I don’t want to sound like anyone else & if you’ve heard my music, it’s hard to “box” up. My roots are in the classics; everything from classical music to early rock n’ roll & jazz standards. I have a soft spot in my heart for a bittersweet melody and honest lyrics. I just released my debut EP, “Ode To A Clown” – I consider this work reflective of all of my musical influences. Recorded live at Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso Texas, Produced by David Gungor with the finest musicians from all over the world. I look forward to producing and releasing more of my music later this year.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Learn as much as you can about your craft – find as many avenues / related topics and familiarize yourself with as much as you can. I find that preparation takes away my nerves – the more I learn and prepare for something the less daunting it feels. Since I was a kid I had a work ethic that knew no bounds – I would try to squeeze 25 hours into one day. I excelled at burning the candle at both ends – I think a strong work ethic is key to getting wherever you want to go but only recently have I realized that rest is just as necessary as the hustle. Burn out is real – a steady pace and healthy boundaries with yourself and others will keep you in it for the long haul.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Not only have they supported my talents from day one but they’ve never told me to throw in the towel or get ready for “plan b.” They know who I am and what I was born to do. “Stay the course” -their famous last words.
