We were lucky to catch up with Allister and Denise Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Allister and Denise, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
Our source of generosity stems from our strong conviction in giving back, which is deeply rooted in our faith. The principle “to whom much is given, much is required” guides our actions, motivating us to contribute to the well-being of single moms through Single Moms Planet and our church.

Affirmation Effect is not just a business for us—it’s a journey of empowerment that began in 2014. My wife, Denise, and I founded this small, family-owned venture with a simple yet profound mission: to boost our son’s self-worth through positive affirmations on his school apparel.

The impact was transformative, resonating beyond our family, leading us to launch Affirmation Effect. Today, we take pride in crafting high-quality inspirational apparel, accessories, and luxury coconut wax candles that carry positive affirmations of love, beauty, and faith. It’s more than just fashion; it’s a movement of spreading love, positivity, and inspiration.

Our commitment extends beyond our products. As devoted supporters and council members of Single Moms Planet, a non-profit organization empowering single mothers and their families, each purchase from Affirmation Effect contributes to making a positive impact on lives. We believe in the power of affirmations to uplift and inspire, and we invite you to join us in this journey of spreading positivity and empowerment.

Exciting achievements lie ahead for us in 2024., including an upcoming feature on Good Morning America 3 on March 6. Additionally, our apparel will be available on the shelves of Walmart this year, marking a significant step in our growth and outreach.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on our journey with Affirmation Effect, three important qualities stand out. Firstly, resilience has been key—navigating challenges with determination has been instrumental in overcoming obstacles and fueling our growth. Our ability to care for our customers, understanding their needs and desires, has been another critical aspect, guiding us in creating products that deeply resonate. Lastly, effective communication, both internally and externally, has played a crucial role in building relationships and fostering a positive brand image.

For those embarking on their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by embracing setbacks as learning opportunities.
