Meet Jasmine Isom

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Isom. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is deeply rooted in a combination of personal values, life experiences, and a genuine passion for what I do. Growing up, I was instilled with the belief that hard work and dedication are fundamental virtues. Witnessing my parents’ unwavering commitment to their professions served as a powerful example. Additionally, having served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints instilled in me a sense of discipline and responsibility.

Moreover, my work ethic is fueled by a profound passion for my craft. When you genuinely love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work – it becomes a labor of love. This intrinsic motivation pushes me to invest time and effort into my creative endeavors. Challenges are seen as opportunities for growth, and each project is approached with a commitment to delivering quality and meaning.

Crucially, my work ethic is deeply intertwined with the impact I strive to make through my creations. Sharing art and stickers that convey the message of Jesus Christ is not just a creative endeavor for me; it’s a personal mission. The belief that my work can serve as a source of inspiration and reflection for others adds a profound layer of purpose to my dedication. When faced with challenges, this mission becomes a driving force, propelling me to invest the time and effort required to ensure that each piece carries a meaningful message. In essence, my work ethic is not just about diligence in my craft but is also a commitment to sharing messages of faith and inspiration through my art.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In July of 2021, I brought my entrepreneurial dreams to life by launching my business, “JasmineTreeDesign,” on Etsy. Inspired by a lifelong passion for art, I decided to monetize my talents, marking a pivotal step upon returning from my mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Initially focusing on selling prints of my artwork, the trajectory quickly shifted towards the vibrant world of stickers, with a specific emphasis on Christian and LDS themes over the past year and a half.

A highlight of my business has been the creation of popular items like LDS Youth Theme stickers and “Think Celestial” stickers (and magnets), offered in bulk for easy distribution as thoughtful gifts. These have found particular resonance with LDS youth and Relief Society leaders, becoming staples for ward-wide distribution. During the summer, I extend the collection to include Girls Camp stickers, which have garnered their own fan following.

One of the most exciting aspects of my business is the dedicated focus on LDS temple stickers. With over 100 designs and counting, my goal is to feature stickers for every LDS temple. These temple stickers have become the stars of my in-person market displays, capturing the joy of customers as they discover their unique temple represented among my collection.

As for me, I am currently a senior at BYU, studying art and entrepreneurship. My overarching goal is to continue the growth of my business while aspiring to be a stay-at-home mom in the long run. What I find most gratifying about my business is the opportunity to share the gospel through art. Stickers, in particular, serve as simple yet impactful reminders of the teachings of Jesus Christ that can be placed anywhere. I cherish the idea that my art and stickers not only resonate with customers but also become tools for them to share the message of Jesus Christ with others through thoughtful gifts.

This past year has been marked by participation in over 25 in-person markets, including the esteemed Provo Farmers Market. Looking ahead, I’m eager to return to the Provo Farmers Market this summer, continuing to connect with my audience and share my creations with the community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my entrepreneurial journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have significantly shaped my path. First and foremost, adaptability has played a critical role in navigating the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship. The ability to embrace new skills, adjust strategies, and welcome change has been instrumental in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities. For those embarking on their journey, my advice is to cultivate adaptability by remaining curious, seeking feedback, and maintaining an open-minded approach to alternative solutions.

Creativity stands as another cornerstone of my journey, driving both my artistic endeavors and business solutions. It’s not just about producing art but also finding innovative answers to the challenges that arise in entrepreneurship. Developing a creative mindset involves exploring diverse sources of inspiration, collaborating with others, and granting oneself the freedom to take risks and learn from mistakes. To those starting out, I recommend fostering creativity by actively engaging with different ideas and perspectives.

Lastly, resilience has been key to weathering the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. Viewing setbacks as opportunities for learning and maintaining a positive mindset during challenging times has been essential. For those at the early stages of their journey, building resilience involves setting realistic expectations, establishing a strong support network, and keeping a focus on the long-term vision rather than immediate setbacks. In summary, adaptability, creativity, and resilience have been pivotal in my entrepreneurial journey, and I encourage others to actively cultivate these qualities for a robust and fulfilling path ahead.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, the growth in my business has been nothing short of remarkable. The highlight has been the substantial improvement on Etsy, where my business performed 20 times better compared to the previous year—an exhilarating achievement. This period has been transformative as I honed in on the core identity of my business, finding my niche in selling Christian/LDS themed artwork and stickers. Venturing beyond the digital realm, I took part in my first in-person market last year, a milestone that paved the way for participation in over 25 markets. What began as a “hobby” has evolved into a bona fide business, signifying a significant transition in my entrepreneurial journey.

This transformative phase wasn’t just about numbers; it was about a deeper understanding of what resonates with my audience. The introduction of over a hundred new products marked an exploration of creative boundaries. Some ventures failed, others succeeded, but each attempt contributed to a valuable learning experience. Notably, the bulk sale of youth theme stickers and Think Celestial stickers emerged as a catalyst for my business’s substantial growth in the past 12 months. This strategic shift not only fueled financial success but also clarified the direction I want my business to take.

Looking ahead, I am energized and optimistic about the future, eager to build on this foundation of growth and learning. The past year has been a journey of discovery, both for my business and personal development, and I am excited to continue this trajectory of expansion and exploration in the coming months.
