Meet Tamia Wells

We recently connected with Tamia Wells and have shared our conversation below.

Tamia , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I believe my optimism comes from the desires of my heart. Due to me believing that my future is bright, that gives me the hope that I need to fight past the troubles of today and live for the victories of tomorrow. Hope is the key factor to obtaining and maintaining optimism. Hope and faith.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I own a record label and entertainment company titled Cruzn Cozy Records. Our distribution is through UnitedMasters and our performance royalty company is ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). Recently, our Theatrical R&B artist Chrissy Goobache won an award for a writing competition with ASCAP. The song is titled ‘Mr. Skid Row’ and its available exclusively on YouTube.

Cruzn Cozy Records has operated in the Los Angeles Area for 3 years, but I am excited to announce that we will be expanding nationally to Atlanta, Georgia and globally to the United Kingdom, opening up the first brick and mortar creative center in Atlantic Station Area (Atlanta). This creative center will cater to all creatives. Whether it’s photography, podcasting, makeup, hair, merchandising, design, vocal recording, producing, performing; etc. If you are in the Atlanta area, this is the place for you. The center is expecting to be operating by the fall of this year.

Cruzn Cozy Records will also be releasing Chrissy Goobache’s second EP titled ‘Volume 2’ in April of this year. This extended play project is the sequel to her first project titled ‘Purity Within A Cesspool: Vol 1’. Volume 1 was more of a traditional R&B, given the slow melodic melodies and the heavy bass throughout the production. Volume 2 is a new sound of eclectic genres. This is why it is being considered Alternative. Both projects have the same message and moral but each project shows her evolution as an artist and a writer and has different approaches and deliveries. Co-produced by herself and our lead engineer HeyJP, everything you experience from the music was created from pure talent.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The areas of knowledge that contributed to my success is learning the music business, understanding diversity and having the discernment to assess the difference between the people who want to build a relationship long term and the people who are in your life temporarily. Establishing these groups will save you time, money and disappointment.

Two pieces of advice. Join reputable companies and networks. Groups on Facebook, The Directors Guild, The Recording Academy, ASCAP, Women in Film. Companies with a network of people who share your common interest. As well as, continue to educate yourself in your field. Education is the only thing that no one can take from you. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. ~ Maimonides

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would like to collaborate with film production companies. I want more sync placements for my artist and to transition Cruzn Cozy Records from a music company to all things entertainment. I want my artist to expand their artistry with music scoring, sound track composition, short film videography and acting. A specific company that I would love to collaborate with is OWN network, HBO and Disney.
