We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cat Chickering a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cat, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Working in such a great industry with an exceptional crew definitely helps me stay optimistic. When you are surrounded by like minded, hard working individuals, you know you have a lot to be happy about. Their desire to strive and keep the shop advancing as much as I do makes me look forward to what the future may hold.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
A very good friend opened Epic Tattoos in 2004 recognizing that there was an opportunity and need for a tattoo and piercing shop in the area. Luckily, I was able to help open and eventually buy the shop. We are focused on putting out the best tattoos and piercings. We continue to strive to grow with the industry and still provide the best costumer experience. I personally do body piercings, but we offer tattoos as well. I get excited about the constantly evolving piercings, body jewelry, and clientele. We all love that there is always room to grow in this industry and can always learn something new. One of the best things is the support of the community itself. We all support each other.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Personally for me I went all in when I got my apprenticeship. I think me going in head first and learning everything I can along the way has been a huge part that has helped me succeed this far into my career. I definitely know you have to be able to change with the ever evolving industry. Then learning the business part of it from a great mentorhas got me to where I am today as well as surrounding myself and the shop with a great group of people that are like minded.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
