Meet Miles Hendrickson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Miles Hendrickson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Miles below.

Miles, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Embracing my multiracial identity, I’ve learned to leverage my unique perspective as a strength rather than a challenge. By valuing diversity across all aspects of my life, I bring a wealth of experiences and insights to the table. I focus on effective communication, building alliances, and fostering an inclusive environment. Through resilience, continuous learning, and a commitment to authenticity, I navigate being the only one in the room with confidence. Success comes from celebrating the many shades of diversity and recognizing the positive impact they bring to both personal and professional spheres.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I specialize in capturing the essence of people and still life through my lens, transcending the apparent simplicity of photography to reveal its inherent complexity. What sets my work apart is the ability to discern beauty in the nuances of diversity. Much like the interplay of black and white creating a captivating gray area, I find fascination in the often-overlooked subtleties.

Photographing people is particularly exhilarating as it involves creating a unique space where individuals can unveil facets of their essence that defy replication. On the other hand, still life photography presents the challenge of crafting visual narratives, utilizing elements like intriguing perspectives and the delicate balance between light and shadow to evoke emotions in the audience.

A recent reconnection with my passion for fashion and beauty photography has opened new horizons. In the near future, anticipate experiencing my work resonating across the fashion capitals of the world and beyond. Each frame I capture is an exploration of the diverse and multifaceted beauty that surrounds us, and I invite you to join me on this visual journey.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three pivotal elements stand out:

Insightful Perspective:
– My ability to see behind the curtain and discern the intricacies of situations has been crucial. This quality enables a deeper understanding, fostering informed decision-making and innovative thinking.

Creative Imagination:
– An unwavering imagination has played a significant role, allowing me to explore uncharted territories and envision possibilities beyond conventional boundaries. This creative lens has been instrumental in problem-solving and generating unique ideas.

Nurturing Environment:
– The upbringing my parents provided, fostering a lifestyle of exploration and a well-rounded education, has been foundational. This supportive environment has allowed me to embrace diverse experiences and perspectives, contributing to my growth.

For those embarking on their journey of self-discovery, I offer the following advice:

Curiosity and Inquiry:
– Always ask questions, whether directed inwardly for self-reflection or outwardly to those around you. Curiosity fuels learning and promotes a deeper understanding of the world.

Open-Minded Learning:
– Embrace a mindset of openness to new skills and information. The ability to adapt and learn continuously is a valuable skill that propels personal and professional development.

Mastery of a Skill:
– Choose a skill that resonates with your passions and interests, and dedicate yourself to mastering it. Expertise in a particular area enhances confidence and provides a solid foundation for growth.

Diverse Knowledge Base:
– Cultivate a broad understanding of various topics, interests, and categories. This diversity enriches your perspectives and equips you to navigate a range of situations.

Reflection and Stillness:
– Establish a regular practice of daily reflection and stillness. Creating a space for introspection enhances self-awareness, leading to better decision-making and personal growth.
Remember, the journey is uniquely yours, and each step contributes to your evolution. Stay open, curious, and committed to continual learning.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am actively seeking collaborations with like-minded creatives who share a passion for thoughtful and impactful artistry. I appreciate individuals who can express themselves eloquently and value quality over quantity. Whether you’re a designer, model, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, brand, or digital artist, if you possess the enthusiasm and optimism to create masterpieces even with limited resources, I’d love to collaborate.
