Meet Delia Folk

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Delia Folk a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Delia, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I thought about my interests, strengths & skills. I paid attention to the activities where I was able to achieve a state of flow. I thought about what gave me energy and brought me joy versus what made me feel tried. I kept my eyes open to opportunities that came my way. Lots of self-reflection about how my personal experience can be used to help/better others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Delia Folk, and I am the Co-Founder of The Style That Binds Us. For my career, I interned at Versace & worked at Barneys on the buying team. I am from Birmingham, AL but live in NYC.

The Style That Binds Us is a media company & style consulting agency founded by mother daughter duo, Alison Bruhn & Delia Folk, who are on a mission to ensure everyone lives their most stylish & fearless life. Our media company encompasses a podcast, YouTube channel, website, blog, newsletter, social media channels, Mini Mag, events, tv segments, public speaking engagements, etc.

We are launching courses soon, so stay tuned for that!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
-Hard-working: in order to start you company, it is imperative that you have grit and an unrelenting belief in yourself & your business -Detail oriented: this is an important skill no matter what stage of life you’re in
-Push myself out of my comfort zone: unbeknownst to me, I thrive in an environment where I am surrounded by ambitious women. My whole life I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone (transferring from University of Alabama to The College of William and Mary, deciding to pursue a career in the fashion industry & move to NYC with little connections or knowledge about the industry, becoming an entrepreneur full-time, etc.)

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I became an advocate for women’s rights! https://thestylethatbindsus.com/how-i-found-my-voice/
