Meet Dorian Webster

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dorian Webster. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dorian below.

Dorian, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
This has been my biggest fear, losing my creative edge/ creative mind. I constantly think about if at some point I will lose the ability to think of new concepts and ideas and that really frightens me because that is the sole provider of any brand, new fresh and creative ideas. So to combat this I center myself around my friends who are heavily involved in the fashion and modelling world who critique and help foster new ideas that can keep my creative mind still flowing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
So I am the Creative Director and Fashion Designer for my brand Grand Avenue. For me the most exciting thing about owning and operating my own brand is the freedom of time and leverage to make it whatever I want. I would love for people to know that my brand is very personal, in the sense that I make each piece with the buyer in mind and it is specifically tailored for you and even in mass production it is made for whoever wears the garment no matter what time or occasion you feel as if you had a hand in the creation as if you had sat behind the sewing machine and made it yourself. I can’t say to much, but new items coming soon will be made from custom made fabrics and very fun functional garments, and you should see them starting to roll out early to mid summer.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have two and they apply anywhere in life, but those qualities are Time and Effort. The first is the time piece, you have to make time for whatever it is that your doing and you can’t let anything get in the way of that because if you don’t make the time or allow things to pull you away from the time you set then you’ll always find yourself saying “I don’t have the time now to do it” and it’ll always have a place on your back burner list. The second is effort, you can’t start something and give half of yourself to it, you have to go full into it so that way whatever glass ceiling you have you surpass it because you’ve given the effort to do so. These were things early on I wasn’t consistent with and it hindered me in my growth until I realised that something I was/wasn’t doing was causing my stagnation and needed to change.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for people to collab with. I look for people that like to be different and I don’t mind people that do the typical graphic T’s or sweatshirts and joggers because a true collab is a melting pot of ideas, so really just as long as you have ideas and open to tailoring many ideas then we can collab. Anyone looking to collab can dm me on either my instagram which is dwebster_34 or my brands instagram which is grandavenue1042.
