Meet Eric Jenkins

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eric Jenkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Eric , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by making it a point to revisit the places that never fail to spark inspiration in me. Whether it’s the cozy coffee shop downtown with its aromatic brews and eclectic vibe or the serene park where nature’s beauty unfolds in every season, these spots have become my creative sanctuaries. There’s something magical about immersing myself in familiar environments that stir up memories and ideas. It’s like catching up with old friends, and each visit reignites the imaginative flame within me. So, whenever I feel my creative well running dry, I grab a cup of coffee or take a stroll in the park.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a San Diego California based photographer, my brand and company is “Eric Wolfe Photography” Some of my main focuses are street, portraits, and event photography. What I love most about photography is the never ending stories being told through each image. As a street photographer, I never plan my shots, I like to go out into the city and see what happens. Sometimes, you get a quiet city; that’s just waking up, other times; you get a city that’s wide awake and full of life, and the people are hustling and bustling, and moving about. As a portrait photographer, the thing that I like the most is meeting new people and helping them find interesting versions of themselves.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I think that some of the most impactful qualities that I incorporate into my photography are my ability to read body language. I think it’s important to understand how a person’s emotions can be seen through their photograph. I also think that as a photographer, an important skill to have is to be able to put people at ease, so that they can begin to get comfortable being photographed. I also have a background in art which helps me with my creativity during street photography sessions.

Patience is also a key skill that has helped me a lot, you have to learn to be flexible because not every photoshoot will be perfect and at times, you will need to adapt to whatever situation arises. If I could give any advice to any aspiring photographers, it would be to learn your craft, take the time to learn as much as you can about everything, because your level of knowledge will be evident in your work.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I love connecting and collaborating with fellow creatives and anyone interested in learning more about their own creative journey. I’m open explore any creative idea, because I think that everyone can bring their own unique style into the mix and we can create something pretty cool. Anyone that is looking to collaborate with me can connect with me through my Instagram at @ericwolfephotos or through my website: https://www.ericwolfephotos.art/contact/
