We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annette Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annette below.
Annette, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I was 15 when my first child was born, and six months later I was married. At the age of 20 I was divorced with two dependent children. A few years later, I had another child. I was single and the mother of three little girls who depended on me, and for several years I was on autopilot. I remember looking into face of my little girls, and thinking, I got to do better, so they would not see me as a failure. After much soul searching and prays, I started to pull myself together, went to school got my GED, AA, Bachelor of Science, and a degree in Biblical Studies. Now this was not an overnight process, it took years, but it was essential to my much-needed growth. I found my process through the eyes of three little girls who are now grown and have successful lives of their own. Through my life rearing them, it helped me built character, strength, fortitude, staying power and awaken dreams and passions, that had long been suppressed. My children were the catalyst that propelled me to my purpose.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-Motivation- The hardest part of my journey was to believe in myself. I was looking for others to Affirm me and to tell me that everything would be all right, this never happened. So, I had to realize that dreams do not come true by simply wishing for them. They require relentless pursuit and unwavering dedication and motivation. I had to embrace my journey, with its challenges, setbacks, and obstacles along the way. Breaking Free from my self-imposed limitations, changing my overall perspective, which changed me. My thoughts, belief in my abilities, unleash my creativity, and dared to defy the norm.
Education – Learn. Learn. Learn. This is important to your growth personally, emotionally, and spiritually. I was in my fifties when I decided to attend college, so it was important to me to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Learning nourishes the mind, it allows you to grow, advance your knowledge and find new and exciting opportunities. Learning has been a continuous process that leads to endless possibilities.
Belief system – It is especially important to have a strong belief system and core values. As an adult who is constantly moving toward success, I have tried to maintain a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks with which I am confronted. I call these my “Core Values.” This is a strict regimen or a belief system that is instilled into my everyday practice to complete anything that may present itself. Although not perfected, I have found this system to be quite successful. Life can seem tough and demanding, but weaving the values and beliefs to my daily life has helped me navigate through my journey.
Advice: Remember, the path to success is rarely smooth. Believe in yourself and remember that you have the power to turn your dreams into reality. Learn. Learn. Learn. Education is power. Let Your beliefs become your thoughts and lead to action.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most impactful and important lessons my mother taught me is to believe in myself. She taught me that you can’t let others define you and make you feel less than. Another lesson my mother taught me is the value of gratitude. She encourages me to focus on the things I’m grateful for, even when life is challenging. Through her guidance, I’ve learned to be persistent in the pursuit of my goals and to never give up in the face of adversity. My mother has been an incredible influence on my life, teaching me valuable lessons that have helped shape the person I am today. From the importance of planning and power of positivity and prayer, from the love of cooking and sharing meals with loved ones (she was big on family), my mother has imparted countless life lessons that have stayed with me throughout the years.
