Meet Mario Phillips Hammond

We recently connected with Mario Phillips Hammond and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mario, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience came from years of lifelong Development. My childhood, my timw in the US Army and the trails and tribulations that I’ve had to overcome. But most importantly it comes from my faith in GOD. I grew up in the church and my faith continues to be a big part of my life to this day. With being a community leader, being a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc , and running my management label amongst other commitments I’ve had to understand that even in stress and dealing with my own mental health challenges that God got me and God makes no mistakes. Stay the course. The best is yet to come!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Ok. Hi my name is Mario Phillips Hammond I’m the founder, CEO and Talent Development Manager of MiND BoggLE ENTERTAINMENT Group, LLC (MBE for short). I’ve been in business for 2 1/2 years and this was literally something childhood me would be so proud of. I came up with the name back in 2002-2003from something an uncle of mine said and when I moved into management after previously being an artist and DJ myself. I wanted to help young aspiring artists to develop their skills as artsit and be the best version of themselves.

More about MBE.

MBE Group was started as an alternative to more mainstream management and record labels to give the artist it represents more freedom to create and to provide artist developmental services. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Well, the first one is preparation. As my Drill Sergeant told me in Basic Combat Trailing more than 15 years ago,” Poor planning makes for poor performance “. When getting anything started you have to take the time to assess the situation and plan. Take the time to prepare for you jump into action best way to make this move smoothly. The other is passion. If you don’t love ehat you do then you want work as hard for it. I’m passionate in people just as much as I am in music. So they go hand in hand. When was in the Army it was never my passion but I loved what I was able to do to help others and I knew then I always loved art, and music. I was the youngest person in my churxh mass choir at 9 which I felt good about, and I loved art. Drawing and creating thibgs are still a passion for me to this day so going to to managing and working with other creatives was no problem. The last on I’m cheat and with and just pot the last one together because they do hand in hand to me and that’s persistence and preserverance. You can’t give up! It’s just that simple that’s where the perseverance comes from. You have to keep going someone will see your hard work eventually and if they don’t? Oh well keep going! Persistence to me is going back to staying true to self and having the fortified to keep going even in the storm until you achieve the goals you have set out for yourself. These are some of the things that have kept me on this journey and it’s important to keep it up at all costs. Their be a lot of nos before you get a yes. Stay in your pocket. Also look for courses online orreach out to others in your field and never take good advice for granted. I’m just thankful for the journey I have going on and the people in my life.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Well, I’ll say this though this is about me. I can say at this point I couldn’t have make the impact that I’ve made without my team and that’s not taking nothing from me. I know my strengths but I also know that no successful entrepreneur can say they did it all by themselves. What has really helped me is the support of my team and my wonderful fiancée Destany, she’s been my biggest support and partner since we’ve been together. I definitely believe in investing in others to build up my weaknesses. To get the best results you have to understand that one person can’t make things happen on their. I think the cooperate term is Out sourcing, where you have to depend of other entities or businesses to help you grow. I’m still learning how to best utilized help I’m not gone lie (laughs) but I do see how it helps. I’m a bit of a workaholic and I’ll try to do it all by myself and then what comes with that is burnout. I don’t have an example from my time managing artists because since I’ve got started with this I’ve had someone helping me out. S/o my COO Judaea for being my day one in this. But yea I learned early on from being in the military and playing team sports the importance of teamwork. Plus when I tey to go at it alone I end up flat on my face but it does not mean I’m not always self improving. So I don’t really have an example of sorry but my advice would be there is no I in team you can be the best person on the team and still be a terrible leader. You can be a great leader and still be terrible at the at thing that your teammates can excel at, you can just be a jack of all trades and end being a master of none. I hope that at least answered your question.
