We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesscy Dean. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesscy below.
Jesscy, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
100% my mama.
I was raised in poverty by a single mother who was the very definition of resilience. She always made the best of every situation, never complained & taught me the value of a life well-lived. We never had much, but she always made it feel like we had the world. She was a true Renaissance woman who could do everything – run a chainsaw, build a home, train a horse, disappear in the backcountry, swing dance with the best of them, craft wild food, banter, and LOVE. She lived so many lifetimes in her short time on earth, and gave me the gift of savoring every moment of it. I don’t even know how to put fully into words the way she impacted everyone she encountered, but she certainly gave me her effervescent spark.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I don’t even know where to start!? 🙂
I guess there are three main pieces to heart at the moment. These are in no particular order.
PrairieSongRescue.org – We are a small, mostly self funded 501c3 non-profit animal rescue located at the base of the Crazy Mountains in Montana. As I am half native, we focus much of our efforts on reservation animals, but we never say no to a critter in need and in addition to working overseas, we have completed three very large hoarding cases beyond our normal rescue load. We rescue all sorts of animals and are very hopeful to be able to expand our reach this year to help more and more animals in need.
Vibrantly Rooted – I help women to create nature-aligned, self- sufficient lives they’re madly in love with. This is my custom 11 week coaching program where I walk women through the process of manifesting and crafting wildly aligned and lovely lives, disconnecting from the systems that bind them.
My wool art & music – I create living wool pieces in tandem with the endangered sheep that I shepherd. They of course do the hard part…growing the wool! 🙂 All of the proceeds go back into our animal rescue efforts, and to raise awareness of the stewarding of keeping the breed alive. WildHomesteader.store is where you can learn more about these wool pieces that have my heart.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Mindset. Mindset, mindset, MINDSET! When I truly realized the impact my choice of thoughts and beliefs had on the way I move through life, it was a game changer. This is now where I focus much of my growth energy, as it is absolutely the root to success and amplifying my impact on my reality and those I touch.
Radical self-love. It’s so easy for us to stall our potential by believing the stories and generation experiences as opposed to the reality that there is nothing we can do to gain or deny our worth. We. Are. WORTHY. Period. We are worthy! And we all deserve love. That starts with loving ourselves truly, madly, deeply, purely. It doesn’t matter what a single other soul on this earth thinks about us or says about us. We’re worthy.
Kindness. We never know what someone else is going through. It’s not our job to do anything other than move through the world with kindness & compassion.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Finances. We are in great need of a mobile vet vehicle, a transport rig, machinery to move feed, better fencing & an actual facility for our rescue efforts. We have been so incredibly blessed with helping hands & a lovely network of people devoting time and energy to help us, but having more secure funding would enable us to amplify our impact in a very meaningful way.
We have been exploring ways to apply for appropriate grants & have been manifesting the perfect fit for funding!
