Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Franco Bracho. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Franco, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I was a contractor working with lots of pressure and stress, which was leading me to depression and having panic attacks. When the pandemic came, I had plenty of free time. The walls in my place were empty, so I decided to explore buying some canvas, acrylic painting and try to paint. I remember drawing was a hobby when I was a child, and I was kind of good at it. I used to draw animals, waves, surf scenes using just a pencil, but I’ve never used colors, brushes, or canvas. I used to see my father painting (he was an artist), which now I see this had a strong influence on me.
So, I did my first painting, and it was fine, still had a lot of room to improve, but I felt in love with it. I then realized that was in need to create.
It was for me the opportunity to drop my work as a contractor and pursuit a career as an artist doing something I just discovered was my true passion.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a visual artist and use oil paint on canvas as a medium. My work is mainly focused on portraits. I believe the main purpose of any art is to create a communication with the viewer and transmit emotions. For me, the way I find connection is through the different personalities I portrait. It’s through the gaze and colors of the people I paint that I tell their stories.
I think it’s amazing how just a painting can make you travel, you can imagine what that person is thinking, what that person is trying to tell you. And that is what motivates me to continue doing what I am doing.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’m a self-thought kind of person. I start from the base that if someone can do it, I can do it too. I will search, get knowledge, try to find the skill needed to achieve what I’m trying to achieve. Not just in art but in my daily tasks, I’m a multitasking person, I know how to cook (well), I know how to saw, how to build walls, plaster, painting, plumbing, etc. My advice is persistence, keep doing what you love, practice, practice, practice till you achieve the desired results, learn from the mistakes and keep the focus.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I’m a new artist, I start painting seriously since February 2023 so, my big challenge still sell my art in a more constant manner. I’m trying to be everywhere, art fairs, art events, networking, master classes. I know this is the beginning and with persistence it will all pay off, but I’m still going through challenges.
