We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesse Ferrell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesse below.
Jesse, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I got my first taste of confidence through skateboarding i would say. I started skating a little later than usual at age 16 but skateboarding its just a sport thats learned through straight failure. You will try a trick 100 times before you just land it one time. After skating i kept building my confidence by doing small things and watching them work out. Now i have delusional self belief honestly lol. One thing people don’t understand about confidence is that its simply just a skill built through action, its not some special gift only some of us have.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own and operate A premium streetwear brand out of Jacksonville Fl that i started in 2016. I started my brand through the love and style of skateboarding, in skateboarding the way you dress is a big part of the sport and culture. Since 2016 my brand has made waves throughout the city of Jacksonville and around the world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
So much has been learned since I started my brand in 2016. One of the things I learned and had to really truly focus on was patience. I know we all say this but you have to have a very clear understanding of your starting point and to stop judging your movement based on where you are starting from. We all come from different backgrounds and you cant base your journey on someone else’s journeys. The second thing i have learned would have to be to understand the market you are selling too. When i was starting my brand i was trying to sell to a beach market that has nothing to do with my brand but it was just what i was around and I would be upset things wouldn’t move, thats because I had no clue what my market was and how I could find them. So make sure you ask yourself these questions.
The third thing is constantly get out of your comfort zone regardless of how it makes you feel. A comfort zone will kill everything you are working for.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
ME MYSELF AND I! lol but honestly i have had 0 help in this game it has all been me. I had to Create a very transparent relationship with myself. Most people think they need someone for help, in reality you hold so much power within yourself. Don’t wait for help just get up and figure this shit out, this is your dream and nobody will care about it the way you do.
