Meet Jessica Swint

We recently connected with Jessica Swint and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I would attribute my resilience to my family. I think that everyone in my family has always strived towards something whether that’s a job or getting an education. Their influence on me, learning from my family history has impacted me wanting to stay focused and pursue my passions.

I also would attribute my resilience to my dedication to always striving to be better in anything that I do. For example, I am someone who will find a way to get something done and make a way when there seems like their isn’t a way. Whether that’s when accomplishing a goal or helping someone else out. I think also being willing to help others has helped me to also be resilient because I am always striving towards finding solutions to problems and I will work until I figure something out.

Also, what contributes to my resilience is always seeking to inspire and to be inspired. I believe that there is always a lesson that you can learn from something and being able to stay inspired has helped me to inspire others by my drive, resilience and by striving to be the best at whatever I set out to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Outside of working in Higher Ed, I currently work on both of my businesses. One is a hair and skin care business and the other is faith-based business where I have my e-book, inspirational T-Shirts and my YouTube page and socials. With my hair business I have defiantly seen it grow over the years. One of my favorite things to do is create content for the OrganicallyJessica Instagram and Facebook page and informing people of why healthy haircare is important and what my company has to offer in helping to achieve healthy hair and skin.

My brand RareX Beauty in Christ has also been a game changer since starting this business because it intially started off as an idea that really took off in Spring 2022. The meaning behind the Name RareX Beauty is that when I thought of myself I always defined myself as rare. The X stands for me leaving a mark wherever I go. Meaning not only am rare but I leave a mark wherever I go. So no matter who I meet I will always make a difference in someone’s life whether that’s through meaningful conversation or just by them following my the RareXBeauty Instagram page or my YouTube account.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Being Determined no Matter What, Being self-aware and Showing grace.

Advice that I would give to someone early in their journey would be to find what you’re passionate about and focus on that, because it will help to drive your determination that no matter what you will be inspired to continue to strive for what it is that you are inspired by. I would also encourage you to stop and check-in with yourself and develop the mindset that “If no one shows up, I’m showing up ” having this mentality has helped me to accomplish more that I ever would have, versus if I would have been afraid to step out on faith and go for what it is that I was striving for.

Being self-aware would be something that I would suggest starting early because the more self-aware you are, the more in-tune you are with who you are and where you can improve upon. I think when we are self-aware we are able to take time away from always focusing on the next opportunity and focus on how you can improve and work on self without being consumed by things that might take away from your time of getting yourself together.

If I were to give advise to someone on how to continue to be willing to grow and show grace I would say to look at things objectively and strive to be being open-minded and keep in mind that not everyone thinks like you. I think sometimes we think that everyone should know or be aware of something but just by showing grace goes a long way because what I’ve learned is that everyone’s going through something good or bad and just by extending grace, concern and an understanding mindset will help yourself grow as well as the person who you are showing grace to.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would defiantly love to connect with other people or adults who are passionate about growing their faith. If someone is interested in content creation and or branding themselves for their business pages or for their social media, I would love to connect! The best way to reach me is by email at jswint@jacksonville.edu.
