Meet Truth Chiles

We were lucky to catch up with Truth Chiles recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Truth , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience can be traced back to my mother. She comes from a long line of women who overcame political, racial, and socio-economic injustices. Even today, her passion for equity and equality has shaped my desire to seek out opportunities to promote underserved and underrepresented communities in music.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love music and just about every facet of the creative field. As a singer and songwriter, I’ve had the pleasure to work with some amazing artists in Rock, Country, Soul, and Gospel. January 17th, I released my first short EP, lateBLOOMER, and am excited to unveil the first music video from the number one streamed song, “NOW” dropping February 19th.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have continued to impact my journey are tenacity, diligence, and a positive mind (outlook).

For those getting started in music, I’d say, be prepared to fail, but do it fast and do it often. Don’t take criticism too hard and be open to new ways of doing. Most importantly, never stop learning.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents gave me what they should have received and that’s affirmation. I was never told that my dreams were unattainable or that the obstacles I’d face would keep me from becoming. They pushed me to try. More than that, they helped me to see that what’s in me cannot be broken or stopped. If I really want something, I have the will to make it happen. And once I start believing in myself, everyone else will believe in me too.
