We recently connected with Artésia Price and have shared our conversation below.
Artésia, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
For as long as I can remember my dad would say to me, “You’re unique.” As a little girl, I never really understood the significance of his words. The older I got, the more I began to understand and embrace my uniqueness. As my dad noticed me walking in my quirks, my individuality, and my differences his words became, “Always remember you’re a Hart.” Within my family, there has always been this unspoken expectation regarding what it means to be a Hart and even after my his untimely passing, his words continue to carry me day after day.
Remembering those intimate moments with my dad, I utilized my family’s name, Hart, to aid me in silencing imposter syndrome:
H – Healing from the Past
A – Accepting Your Current Reality
R – Relationship Elevation
T – (Re) Training Your Brain
While each step in the H.A.R.T acronym required deliberate effort, intentionality in each step moved me from a space of
“I can’t” to confidently believing that I can. After successful completion of my own “silencing imposter syndrome” process, I founded my virtual mental health practice, Therapy From The Hart. Since its inception, I have been fortunate to walk alongside hundreds of others looking to reach their own level of success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Artésia Price, owner and lead therapist of Therapy From The Hart. My virtual mental health practice serves clients navigating life transitions, the affects of anxiety and communication/ relationship issues. Through a talk therapy format, our mission is to assist clients in feeling better, doing better, and ultimately being better for themselves and those they are connected to. An appropriate client for our practice is 16-35 years old, residing in the state of Texas or Tennessee, who is ready for better in all aspects of life.
When I am not serving clients through direct practice, I am motivating professionals at corporate trainings, encouraging individuals at self-care retreats, and connecting with colleagues at mental health conferences. My most popular keynote talk is Silencing Imposter Syndrome with H.A.R.T. Imposter syndrome is believed to be a symptom associated with anxiety. Through my keynote, attendees learn to challenge anxious thoughts with facts associated with their productivity, performance, and progress. These anxious thoughts might mirror “I am not enough,” or “I have to be perfect.” Extensive research illustrated the prevalence of imposter syndrome symptoms in teens and young adults. In order to satisfy this need, I have opened my speaking calendar to high schools, colleges, and universities. Having an education background, I am thrilled to return to the educational realm and serve in this capacity.
I would have to say the most exciting part of my work is witnessing people have a mental shift right before my eyes. Attendees have reported feeling more confident with an eagerness to celebrate themselves and their advancement. It is such a special sight observing the success of individuals being prioritized. Organizations, businesses, and the world around us are positively impacted by this prioritization.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Weird thing, if this question was asked earlier in my journey, I would be intentional about highlighting only the positives; however, I have learned that my adversities serve as testimony for others. With that, I would say that the three qualities that have been the most impactful on my journey have been my faith, practicing resilience, and having patience. All three qualities continue to lead me to levels of success that I never saw for myself.
My faith has always been what has anchored me. As adversity persists, in my life, it is so important that I remind myself to release what is beyond my control. Faithfully believing that God is working things out in my favor is the first step in overcoming whatever my current “it” is. Secondly, practicing resiliency has become second nature to me. Resiliency defined for me is connecting my pain to my gift and using the challenges that I have faced and overcome to motivate and encourage others to do the same. Those closest to me refer to this as my superpower. And lastly, patience. I frequently talk about having to release my “right now” mentality and the importance of patience. It is imperative for me to acknowledge that most times there is a waiting period between hard work and fruition. We have the choice to wait with patience and grace or the contrary. I choose patience.
My advice to someone who is early in their journey would be remember your why. Your why is your purpose. Your why is the reason you get out of bed on good and bad days. When adversity arises, keep your why front and center and that will provide you with the motivation that you need to keep going. And when your why is no longer serving you, re-evaluate your why for opportunities to pivot because as you grow, you must allow your passions to grow as well.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am always open to collaborating with anyone looking to move themselves or others from “I can’t” to “I can.”
As I stated previously, I have recently tailored my keynote on silencing imposter syndrome for educational institutions. This topic can be presented in the form of a motivational talk or an interactive breakout session. I am also open to new opportunities to collaborate for organizational trainings and conferences, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives, mental health retreats, youth summits, and more. As a licensed mental health professional, I am capable of customizing my services to fit your needs. If you are interested in discussing how one of my personalized talks can benefit your audience, let’s connect.
Any professionals looking to collaborate can schedule a free speaking engagement consultation on my website. I am always looking forward to walking the journey towards better with others.
