We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Demarkus Turner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Demarkus with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from watching my mom, Nina Wade. My mom has been working at St Mary’s Hospital for over 30+ years. Watching her continuously go to work everyday in order to provide for myself and my siblings. It has empowered me to work hard for what I desire in life no matter the trails or tribulations.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am owner of Fam Establishment Media Company. We are a community based media production company that empowers and employs youth through media production!! What is most exciting about my business is that I can teach young people in my community how to fish for themselves!! Giving them the skills, techniques, and business knowledge, then being able to hire them to work for my company!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Learning about credit was very significant in my journey. Once I learned about how credit works I viewed life differently. Business was just as important as credit. Learning the different aspects of how to run a business makes running a business a lot easier. Building relationships is equally important as the first two. Relationships can take you places you could never image! I’m glad to have built some solid relationships in business.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth is embracing my role as a leader. Holding myself accountable at all times.
