Meet David R Williams

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David R Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David R below.

Hi David, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my Father. He was an attorney and work days and evenings during the week and Saturday mornings. He was always there for his clients and he was also the church attorney where we attended. Growing up, he never just gave me money. He said I should mow yards and wash cars and when I was 16, he said I need to get a summer job, which I did. I can remember when CB Radios were big and all my friends had them in their cars and my dad said to work during Christmas Vacation and I would be able to make enough money to buy one. I was always the hardest working employee and would have great opportunities to move up at the companies I was working at. I would also find part time work in addition to my fulltime summer jobs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I focus on building relations with my Borrowers and Real Estate Agents. I take a genuine interest in my Borrowers, who they are and what the are looking for in the purchase of their home. With my Real Estate Agents, I get to know why they became a realtor, how they build their business and what can I do to help them. I believe in building strong partnerships which means a win win for them and a win win for me. Also, communication is key with both my Borrowers and my Real Estate Agents. I think is is important to keep them informed throughout the loan process and that means not only delivering good news but also the not so good news. When it is not so good news, I try to come up with other workable solutions so that we can still close the purchase.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think integrity, honesty and trust are the three most important qualities you can have in order to have a successful career in any field. Having a wealth of knowledge in your field is also extremely important but if you don’t have integrity, honesty and trust, that knowledge is worthless. There is Black and White and then there is the Grey. I don’t mind working in the Grey and pushing the edge of the envelope but I will never, under any circumstances, cross the line and do anything I think is wrong. I have had a few occasions where I knew how a deal could get done but I knew to much information that would not allow me to do the transaction. If you know in your Heart something doesn’t feel right, then never ever sacrifice your integrity for the sake of making money. I would often tell my loan officer that worked for me that there was no amount of money to risk losing their License and/or going to jail.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have two Coaches. One is My Life Coach, who I have been working with for over 23 years. He knows me probably better than anyone else and that is because I trust him. It is important to be able to be venerable and honest with your coach and that is were the magic happens. He is also my biggest cheerleader when I am getting down on myself and he is able to lift me up. My other Coach, is My Business Coach. I have been coaching with her for over 8 years. She is highly respected in the Mortgage Business and has been extremely successful as a Top Producing Loan Officer. She is always helping me with growing my business and sharing her knowledge, as a women, with my relationship issues. Having these two people in My Life has made me a better person in so many ways and I owe much of my success to both of them.
