Meet Angel Fabián Rivera

We recently connected with Angel Fabián Rivera and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel Fabián, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
From an early age I’ve put my mind towards the arts. I remember, growing up I always knew there was something different inside me, that never fit in with everyone else. As a young kid, I studied at a very conservative religious school, and arts were barely promoted, everything was about sports, but no arts. After a while I got tired of not having the opportunities to find myself and discover that spark that was glowing inside me. Going into high school, I switched schools and joined the drama club, the choir and other classes that helped me develop my artistic skills. That’s when I found my passion, that’s when I discovered what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. That was all I needed to wake up “that”, that was screaming to get out from the inside. From there on, I only wanted to do one thing, tell stories, make people feel something else, and perform.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor, model, producer who got his first big break in Lionsgate’s “Plane” alongside Gerard Butler and Mike Colter. In this movie, I play the medical student Karim Rahim, fighting for survival when the airplane he’s on has to make an emergency landing in an island full of not so great people. It feels so surreal to say that after years of training and doing theatre/musical theatre, I can finally see myself on a movie screen, or in Amazon, however you watch the movie. This has been one of the most gratifying experiences I’ve had, and now it’s the time to continue building up that confidence, that hard-work, and to continue working towards my dream, a tv show, coming soon.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’d say that the entertainment business is full of talented people, but if you have the willingness, the passion and the positivism, you can surpass talent in a beat.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m looking to grow my brand more and more and help other latino queer artists in the industry. In order to do that I’m looking to represent and be an ambassador of entities that want to help our community and that believe in us.
