Ruth , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping my creativity alive is an easy task in this business, every day is different because of the variety of projects we have to work on with the team. I truly believe that the more creative projects I get, the more satisfaction I feel once achieved.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Since 2012, we felt in love with the idea of preserving vintage furniture by refinishing them, it started as a “hobby” my interest in transforming dated furniture into renovated and functional pieces continued to grow over the time. Nowadays we have a sustainable business that employs young mothers that arrived without any knowledge or experience in the field, and they now have the craftmanship to do the best quality in finishes, which make us very proud.

We specialize in furniture and kitchen cabinet refinishing, upholstery and custom made furniture in the Washington D.C. area.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Proactive attitude.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I could say that my mother taught me by example to see the positive side in every moment of life. She was an entrepreneur that raised three kids as a single mother. I grew up helping her in multiple business to be able to make a living out of it as well as taking care of my younger brothers. At the time I did no realize I was learning so much from those experiences.
