Meet Amanda Page Cornett

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Page Cornett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda Page below.

Amanda, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My parents were crucial in helping me develop my confidence and self esteem. They always told me I can do anything I want if I work hard for it. I came out of the womb loving to entertain, but definitely experienced bullying and negativity during my school years. My folks would consistently remind me that “it doesn’t matter what other people think, as long as you know you’re a good person.” They really instilled a deep sense of being kind, doing what I think is morally right, and trying not to retaliate to others’ actions. Those tough years gave me thick skin and helped me to hold on to who I am, instead of letting others tell me who to be.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Amanda Page Cornett & Almost Angels is the culmination of years of work as a songwriter and musician coming together with other amazing musicians to form a really tight band! I began working and playing with my band mates over 13 years ago. They have become family and a crucial part of the Southern Rock N Soul sound we have found! Randall Scott Peterson plays lead guitar and also co produced our studio album ‘Front Porch Rebel’. Sherry Peterson-Tenille plays bass (-sometimes keys). Yes, they are siblings, which makes the band dynamic even more fun! Shawn Killen is our drummer, who we met playing a VFW. He is a veteran and, considering how much we support our troops, we are really thankful to have him keeping the beat!
We have so much fun on stage! If our audiences have half as much fun as we do, they will have a great time!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Over the years, I’ve learned how important it is to take talents and really work on them! As a songwriter, vocalist, and musician, I believe it is critical to always work at honing your talents and making them skills! My first guitar teacher taught me that to be a professional songwriter, you have to write even when ya don’t feel like it; to make writing a skill, not just a thing you do. I’ve tried to always remember that philosophy, which is why it’s so important to have a vocal coach, a guitar coach, etc. Even vocal coaches have vocal coaches! Ha.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge the band and I have been facing is the difficulty of booking, especially since 2020. We were building our regions and then the world stopped! So, now we’re working to build that network back up so we can expand our reach and be touring more and more!
