Meet Quiana Malone

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quiana Malone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Quiana, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My journey towards self-esteem and confidence hasn’t always been smooth. In the past, I struggled with projecting my own insecurities onto others. I often envied those who appeared confident, desperately wanting to possess that same quality. However, I lacked the knowledge on how to attain it for myself. But then, a realization struck me. I understood that the biggest obstacle in my path was none other than myself. This epiphany led me to three important questions that became the foundation of my personal growth:

1. What aspects of myself do I dislike?
2. Why do I feel a sense of aversion towards others?
3. How can I bring about positive changes?

In that pivotal moment, I dedicated myself to working on self-improvement and addressing the areas I felt unhappy about. Since then, I have consistently followed this process, allowing my confidence to soar and my self-esteem to reach new heights.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I pride myself on my versatility as a leader, wearing multiple hats as the Founder/Interim Executive Director, a Philanthropist, and above all, a committed Community Servant within the realm of 1 Step Up Inc. and Dear Black Girl. My passion for making a difference drives me to actively engage with marginalized communities throughout the United States, collaborating with the Grassroots Foundation and promoting community participation with the inspiring motto, “Nothing about me without me.” Presently, I hold the position of Campaign Manager for Barred Business, utilizing my skills and experience to elevate this cause. Prior to this, I served as a dedicated Sr. Regional Field Manager for Color of Change, where I tirelessly advocated for Justice Impacted People on a global scale. My personal journey, having overcome incarceration, has transformed my life into one focused on positivity and growth. As a certified Life Coach, Public Speaker, and Harvard Kennedy School alumni, I bring a wealth of invaluable expertise to all my endeavors. In addition to my leadership roles, I have also ventured into the world of writing, penning two impactful books, “I Forgive You” and “Pivot.” These books speak to my experiences, growth, and the resilience that has shaped me into the person I am today. Overall, I am proud to embody a dynamic and compassionate leader dedicated to uplifting communities, fostering positive change, and inspiring others to overcome obstacles and realize their full potential. Currently relocated to Atlanta from Fl and will be soon launching Dear Black Girl to the area

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My journey has been shaped by three influential qualities and skills: unwavering resilience, unyielding faith, and relentless determination. I firmly believe that faith serves as our guiding light, resilience shields us from the trials of the world, and determination serves as the compass that keeps us on the path to success. These three elements, when combined, form the perfect formula for any vision of triumph.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past year, my biggest area of personal growth has been letting go of control and realizing that I don’t need to be in charge for everything to function smoothly. I used to bear the weight of my personal life, business ventures, work responsibilities, and relationships all on my own, which eventually led to overwhelming fatigue and loss of interest. After going through this cycle multiple times, I discovered that the root cause was my lack of trust in others. It was a pivotal moment when my therapist helped me recognize this pattern. Now, I have made a commitment to delegate and embrace the expertise of others. This journey of relinquishing control has already proven to be beneficial and successful for me, allowing me to be better prepared and be more creative expanding my programs and gaining a farther reach
