Meet Teresa Edwards

We recently connected with Teresa Edwards and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Teresa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In 2014, after 14 years at my job, I made a life-altering decision. I left for a new opportunity that promised quick promotion but delivered only disappointment. The toxic culture and broken promises left me working grueling hours, only to be laid off in the end. Little did I know, this setback would become the catalyst for a remarkable transformation.

Being laid off was a shock. After four decades of steady employment, I found myself adrift, grappling with feelings of loss and uncertainty. Yet, amidst the turmoil, a realization dawned on me—I had the chance to redefine my path. Embracing this newfound freedom, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery.

As I navigated through the stages of grief, clarity emerged. I vowed never to compromise my well-being for a toxic workplace again. Instead, I resolved to pursue my passion and uncover my purpose. Through introspection, I discovered that serving others brought me the greatest joy.
With newfound purpose, I founded From School to Possibilities, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering minority high school students. By providing leadership skills, career education, and opportunities in the entertainment industry, we aim to inspire, expose, and ignite change in young lives.

As From School to Possibilities takes shape, I am reminded that adversity often paves the way for transformation. By leveraging my experiences and embracing my passion for service, I have embarked on a journey far more fulfilling than any job could offer.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Teresa Edwards is a multifaceted individual, boasting a diverse array of roles including author, producer, music consultant, playwright, director, veteran, and Co-Owner of Terror Dome Entertainment. However, my most cherished role is that of Founder and President of From School To Possibilities. Through this nonprofit initiative that leads minority high school students on an enriching journey through a comprehensive workshop. This workshop offers invaluable insights into various industries, featuring engaging panel discussions, dynamic networking events, and more. And the greatest reward lies in witnessing the students’ faces light up with newfound understanding and inspiration. It’s a feeling like no other, knowing that I am making a positive impact on their lives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my life’s journey, there are three guiding principles that have consistently fueled my perseverance during challenging times, and which I wholeheartedly advocate passing on to others:

1. Authenticity: Remain true to yourself, embracing your unique qualities and staying aligned with your values and beliefs.
2. Empathy: Treat others with the same kindness, respect, and consideration that you wish to receive in return, fostering meaningful connections and mutual understanding.
3. Resilience: Never surrender to adversity; maintain unwavering determination and resilience, confronting obstacles with courage and perseverance.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
From School To Possibilities continues to make significant strides in its mission. However, like many nonprofits, securing adequate funding remains our primary challenge. While we are grateful for the generous donations received thus far, we recognize the need for additional support to further enhance the positive impact we have on the lives of young individuals.
