We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dani Leggett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dani below.
Hi Dani, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a long and windy road. I really didn’t know or find my purpose until this last year or so. I’ve been searching for it for so long. There is so much pressure on young people to know “what they want to BE when they grow up.” Our society puts a lot of identity in what we do with our lives by asking who are you going to be? Instead of asking what lights you up? What brings you joy? How do you want to help others or leave a mark on this world?
So, I went the traditional route of school, then grad school, then good job. And never really feeling like that was right for me, but believing it was the only way to be successful in life. That my career choices defined my success.
After a lot of struggling through job changes, starting and growing our family, living and learning through life, I discovered that the way society lays things out for us is not the only way to live life.
Now I measure success by the amount of JOY that is in my life and I encourage my clients do to the same. To let go of the way society has taught us to think, break the barriers & expectations set for us, and live life guided by our intuition and our happiness first & foremost.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Somatic Healing Coach, supporting my clients 1 on 1 through healing their traumas, rewriting false stories they’ve believed for too long, and guiding them through Somatic tools to live life with more ease. Somatics is the mind-body connection and I love helping people tune into their bodies more, listen in, and feel more confident listening to their intuition.
I am also the owner of The Granary Healing Studio in Downtown Manitowoc, WI where we offer massages, detox foothbaths, yoga, meditations, and other healing modalities to support our community through healing mind, body, & spirit.
I feel large shift in the way people are approaching their self-care, their wellness, and their healing overall and I’m very excited to be a part of that. To educate people on the options that are here for their healing.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Resilience: Owning a business is not for the faint of heart. It is difficult. It can be lonely. I’m proud of the fight in me to continue to press on when things have been difficult.
2. Boundaries: As a recovering people pleaser, this has not been an easy word for me to utilize in my life. But setting boundaries has been so important for me. I’ve learned how to be mindful of my energy and others’ energy to know when I’m going into a situation I don’t want to be in. I’ve ended relationships and I’ve grown and nurtured new ones based on these boundaries and where I know I’m respected and appreciated. It is ok to say NO to anyone or any obligation if it does not align with your energy, your values, or your vision for your life.
3. Intuition: I’ve really learned to pay attention to my intuition over the years. To lean into what my gut is telling me to say yes to or to say no to. Your dreams, your vision, your goals can all be achieved if you lead with your intuition. Fear can not stand in your way. It can not be an excuse to say “no” to something you want to say “yes” to. The more you listen, the more you get to live life with joy because you are leaning into what is truly set for you. The more I’ve done this and seen this to be true in my life, the more I like to shout it out for others to do, too. It is very impactful! And one day, you wake up in your dream life. How incredible!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I’m all about self-care, taking time for yourself, and finding JOY in your every day. I have each of my clients make a list of the things that bring them joy. These things can be big or small, but is a trusty list to go back to when feeling overwhelmed, burned out, over it!
I also have this list. I have things like taking a bath, reading a book, going for a walk, yoga, getting coffee from my fave local spots.
When you find JOY in every day, you are living your life with less stress, anxiety, and fear.
When it comes to work or family or obligations that are stressful and overwhelming, I am all about lists! Writing the things down, getting them out of my head is very important. Especially those nights where the mind just won’t shut off. I pull out my Notes app and write the things down. Giving them a place to go that is not inside of my head helps to quiet the mind.
