Meet Angelica Elange (Artist name: ELANGE )

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angelica Elange (Artist name: ELANGE ) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My journey toward discovering my purpose has been guided by a profound love for music, a passion that has sustained me through both triumphs and challenges. From an early age, I immersed myself in singing and pursued music education for five years, receiving formal training in piano and vocal techniques.Despite briefly exploring business management during high school in Italy, music always resonated as my true calling. Upon my arrival in New York City, I made the bold decision to dedicate myself entirely to music, foregoing traditional education. Completing the Electronic Music Production and Sound Design certificate program at Berklee College of Music equipped me with vital theoretical knowledge, while my hands-on experience at Brewery Recording Studio allowed me to refine my skills in audio engineering and mixing. Overcoming my deepest fears, I embraced the challenge of becoming an assistant at the studio, using these experiences to learn consistency and determination in my craft. In a traditionally male-dominated music industry, I am pursuing diversity and inclusion. My story is out there to emphasize that anyone, regardless of gender or race, can achieve their dreams if they pursue them with passion and perseverance.
Throughout my path, I’ve learned the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself. Despite distractions and alternative paths, music remains the most profound expression of my soul. I firmly believe that each of us possesses the knowledge we seek within, and our task is to master the art of listening to our inner wisdom.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

E L A N G E  is my artistic name that arises from my last name. I aim to combine  EDM, cinematic melodies, and a powerful vocal presence in my music. My creative vision is firmly rooted in the realm of futurism, drawing inspiration from science fiction films to create captivating visuals. I approach music as storytelling and I enjoy creative direction for my visuals. Of course, behind every product there is a team. I am so grateful for people that participate in my projects including street dancers, actors, artists, photographers, filmmakers  and editors. Their support inspires me to go even further and I truly admire their support!  Right now, I collaborate with a talented filmmaker Knox based in Brooklyn that has been shooting content for my projects. His creative vision goes beyond the box along with flexibility and his deep love for music.

What sets me apart is my dedication to music as I believe that music should serve as a source of inspiration and enlightenment for people. As an electronic music producer, sound designer, singer, and songwriter I believe that every path is unique. So, my journey began at a remarkably young age when I developed an unbridled passion for singing at 5 years old. Growing up in Europe, my musical education took a diverse and enriching turn when I became a part of a children’s choir at the opera theater. I also received classical training at a prestigious music school with a specialization in piano. This early exposure laid the foundation for my future endeavors in the world of music. Upon my arrival in New York City, my musical journey took an electrifying twist. I fell in love with electronic music and street dance, immersing myself in the city’s vibrant cyphers and participating in thrilling dance battles. My passion for electronic music ignited a creative flow within me, leading me to explore the world of sound design and electronic music production. Currently, I am pursuing my studies in Sound Design and Electronic Music Production at Berklee College of Music, further honing necessary skills and knowledge in the field. A dedication to my craft extends beyond studies as I started interning at Brewery Recording Studio in Brooklyn and now I work as an assistant where I am gaining invaluable experience in audio engineering and mixing. The studio is known for its professional environment and amazing work ethics. Right now,  I am mastering my DJ skills and working on my electronic live set that will be presented on stages of New York City in a matter of a year.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most vital aspects of my journey were determination, curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly in an ever-changing world. Despite having a natural talent in various fields, it is incredibly valuable to diligently hone a skill set that serves as a tool for your craft. I have continuously immersed myself in every aspect of the art itself. For example, I delved into visual arts and graphic design in high school to understand how to create cover arts and initialize my musical ideas through it, and I explored dancing to better understand how to synchronize my body with music to create more engaging music for my audience. Surprisingly, studying the flute also aided in improving my breath control for vocal stability. I believe intelligence certainly facilitates navigating challenges more efficiently, coupled with analytical thinking. It serves as a filter for all the information we encounter. Without questioning ourselves, we risk losing our innate curiosity, and eventually, individuals may find themselves simply following the crowd, which isn’t necessarily negative. However, for personal development, it’s crucial not to lose sight of authenticity, as each person possesses a unique nature.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

Music for me is a powerful tool for motivation. I would like people to listen to my music and come to my shows energized and filled with inspiration. My main emphasis falls into setting people free in their minds, enlightening them so that they can come to my sets and feel free. I would like to welcome everyone who loves to improve themselves and who needs some guidance towards positivity, self-development and freedom to join my art from all around the world. For now my primary focus lies on the US, Canada and Europe. However, I would like to expand further as music is a universal language, it does not have barriers.
