Meet Bibi Quiles

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bibi Quiles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Bibi, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose when I recognized a need for greater diversity and inclusivity in the event industry. It became apparent that the industry often catered to a specific type of individual, and I saw an opportunity to change that narrative. My goal was to highlight the importance of embracing diversity in all its forms – whether it’s about embracing extravagance or simplicity, identifying with the LGBTQ+ community, expressing oneself through bold fashion choices, or opting for comfort over trends. I wanted to emphasize that, above all, creating fun and awesome events should be the priority, breaking away from stereotypes and celebrating the uniqueness of each individual.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am deeply passionate about transforming the event industry by infusing it with diversity, inclusivity, and a celebration of individuality. My purpose revolves around creating events that break away from the conventional mold, allowing people to express themselves authentically. The most exciting and special aspect of my work lies in challenging stereotypes and highlighting the beauty of diverse perspectives, whether it’s about embracing extravagance or simplicity, identifying with the LGBTQ+ community, expressing oneself through bold fashion choices, or prioritizing comfort over trends.

What sets our brand apart is not only our commitment to hosting memorable and inclusive events but also our recent expansion into an agency. We are thrilled to share that we are now actively involved in helping like-minded DJs secure opportunities, fostering a community of diverse talents. This expansion is not just a business move; it’s a step towards creating a more vibrant and inclusive landscape in the event industry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been particularly impactful:

Adaptability:
The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace the unexpected has been crucial. In the dynamic landscape of the event industry, being adaptable allows for innovation and navigating challenges. My advice to those starting their journey is to cultivate a mindset of flexibility. Embrace new ideas, learn from experiences, and be open to adjusting your approach as needed.

Inclusivity and Empathy:
Understanding and appreciating diverse perspectives have been instrumental in creating events that resonate with a wide audience. Developing a strong sense of inclusivity and empathy not only enhances the quality of events but also fosters a positive and welcoming environment. For those early in their journey, my advice is to actively seek out different perspectives, listen attentively, and prioritize inclusivity in every aspect of their work.

Networking and Relationship Building:
Building a network of connections within the industry has significantly contributed to my growth. Cultivating relationships with fellow professionals, collaborators, and clients has opened doors to opportunities and collaborations. To those starting out, I recommend investing time in networking. Attend industry events, engage with professionals in your field, and build authentic relationships. Networking not only expands your knowledge base but also creates a support system that can be invaluable in your journey.

My advice for those at the beginning of their professional path is to cultivate these qualities. Stay open-minded, embrace diversity, and actively build meaningful connections within your industry. As you navigate your journey, remember that personal and professional growth often go hand in hand.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield has been a guiding force in my personal and professional development. This insightful book brilliantly addresses the internal resistance that hinders creative pursuits and personal growth. Pressfield’s exploration of the concept of Resistance provides a powerful framework for understanding the obstacles we face in our endeavors. The idea of adopting a professional mindset towards one’s craft, irrespective of external recognition, has profoundly influenced my approach to work. Moreover, the emphasis on consistent discipline as the key to overcoming resistance has become a foundational principle in my journey. “The War of Art” has not only provided practical strategies for tackling challenges but has also instilled a resilient and determined mindset, making it an indispensable source of inspiration in my ongoing pursuit of personal and professional fulfillment.
