Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nichelle Temple. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nichelle , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My journey into aesthetics took an unexpected turn after a tarot card reading. While finishing my associates in Minnesota, I sought guidance and shared my interests: a fascination with the body’s functions, connecting with people, and a vague interest in makeup. The tarot reader suggested “esthetician,” blending these elements – working with the body (skin), connecting intimately with clients, and transforming outward appearance. This revelation inspired my entrepreneurial pursuit in the aesthetics industry.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In 2013, I relocated to New York to pursue esthetics at the Aveda Institute, becoming a licensed esthetician. I worked in a variety of spas and clinics searching for my niche. Embracing the role of a perpetual student, I’ve explored specialized modalities such as Gua Sha, Reiki, and Sculptural face-lifting massage. I’ve studied skincare lines, ingredients, and technologies to refine my techniques. Unexpectedly launching Inderma Studio in 2017 while seeking a part-time job, I transitioned to full-time entrepreneurship a year later. My brand stands out for its commitment to incorporating only what I love, ensuring optimal results. Inderma Studio has evolved into a sought-after NYC haven, offering a cozy escape with a stunning skyline view. Using only professional-grade or certified organic products created by entrepreneurs, and cutting-edge technology with micro-current as a favorite guarantees radiant results for all skin types. I am dedicated to educating and empowering clients, creating personalized facial experiences that extend beyond the studio, and fostering a holistic skincare journey.
Exciting news — my stunning amethyst gua sha stone is launching very soon! Every purchase includes a private 1:1 virtual tutorial because again I believe in the importance of education coming from the professional level.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Keeping a motto of “Be generous and treat people kindly” feels like an important quality of mine. Whoever is currently in the studio with me is the most important person in the world. Skin is a big part of who we are, it’s how we showcase ourselves to the world, and I want them to feel so special and leave the studio in a brighter mood.
As a solo esthetician who started with zero clientele, I have found a crucial skill to be my ability to make connections. I have found invaluable support within fitness communities, where the shared understanding of effort and routines leads to enduring results.
Areas of knowledge outside of the skin that have been most impactful have been the study of herbalism, TCM, scientific journals, anatomy, and energy workshops such as Reiki, and chakras, but overall just finding the science behind anything.
For someone early in their journey, I’d advise embracing a mindset of perpetual learning, being a forever student. Dive into specialized courses, study extensively, and invest in yourself.
Be open to unexpected opportunities and say yes when it feels exciting, even when it feels scary. Launching my studio was unplanned yet immensely rewarding. As sitting with a woman at her kitchen table while she pulled tarot cards inspired an unexpected life-changing shift.
When building a brand, focus on incorporating elements you genuinely love, and defining what you want to be known for. Don’t just follow what’s trending. Create a space that reflects your passion as success often comes from a genuine love for what you do.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
For any creative collaborations, folks can reach me at [email protected]. I always love to extend a helping hand where I can and am curious about ways to foster new relationships.
